Here's a thought I had when I rewatched the movie, dunno if it's been touched upon already :
If Snoke is indeed Plagueis, what if he actually isn't a hologram like the movie makes us believe he is, but a force ghost ?
Think about it, Plagueis is meant to be the first force user to have achieved the means to 'cheat death' which in universe is shown to be reaching force ghost status upon death, just like Obiwan and Yoda did later on.
What if Plagueis has indeed been dead for decades, killed by his apprentice Sidious, and he's now pulling the strings from the death realm, as a force ghost ?
Wouldn't be the first time the movie uses mirrors from the OT (in this case, Vader talking to Sidious' hologram) for it turning out to be something else entirely.
What if the next movie reveals Snoke has been a force ghost all along once Kylo goes to meet him to complete his training ?

When Kylo Ren fails to extract information out of Rey he goes to see Snoke, who says 'Bring her to me'. Kylo heads off to bring Rey to the room where Snoke is being projected. But that is kind of odd language to use right? 'Bring her to me' implies bringing her to wherever Snoke physically is. So if he really was in that throne room the only explanation for disappearing at the end of his dialogue is he's a ghost.
Honestly, if I had to put money on it, i'd say it probably is just a hologram. But it's worth mentioning I guess.

THe new SW trilogy is trying to stand on it's own legs.They made the first one similar to SW IV to have a relatable launching platform for the next two movies.
I'm pretty sure they will come up with new characters and not reuse old ones.
As a second argument, consider what we know about plagueis (even if it's no longer canon):
-he lost all interest in manipulating people, companies or planets.He passed that to Shevee
-he spent all the final part of his life studying the force and trying to cheat death.
If he really did succeed i doubt he would rally the REMNANTS of the Empire who already kind of lost (they signed a treaty with the new republic that was detrimental to the first order).Picking up the military breadcrumbs of the galaxy does not fit Plagueis.
And the other side of the coin, Snoke really doesn't strike me as a character with vast knowledge and high manipulation skills.He keeps everyone under his control through fear but not overwhelming. Neither Kylo nor Hux seem to be shitting theire pants when facing Snoke (unlike everyone else was with Palpatine). Shevee uses force lightining on the breathing aparatus of Plagueis and then on Plagueis himself "in the center of the storm, Plagueis's form became anamorphic, then resumed shape".After that, maybe he force chocked him but i'm not fully sure.
From Shevee's point of view, he could feel Plagueis try and control the midichlorians to save his life but he did not alow him/them to do so.After he died, Shevee feels an awarness of power.So it's still up in the air.

Anakin, did you ever hear the tragedy, of Darth Plagueis, the novel?
It was a novel so riveting, and so full of juicy Sheev lore; that it cold even keep the EU from dying. It also gave the Sith some much-needed backstory.
One excellent aspect of the book was that Sheev had a quirky, yet violent history as a member of a noble family on Naboo. He liked to go fast in fancy landspeeders, and killed some pedestrians while going fast one time. His dad Cosinga said he could never drive again; but Sheev is always manipulative and gets what he wants, so later-on his dad gave him the most expensive landspeeder possible, and Sheev started professional racing in it so he could go even faster than before (probably even did a few spins).
However, the novel was originally supposed to come out in 2008, but it got cancelled in favor of a novel about Darth Bane (must have been a big guy to the fandom back then). Eventually, it got green lighted and published in 2012 - the year Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney.
Hmmph, ironic, they could make a good novel about Sheev's backstory; but they couldn't prevent Disney from shitting all over it and making it not canon.
