Is the YouTube hype over? A lot of people that live off of YouTube are complaining about declining revenue and views and are begging on patreon now/stream on twitch too . It seems people are just not font anymore of ads and the reason are supscription based ad free streaming services.
http://www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/youtube-advertising-creative-decade-decline/1333689
A few years back eberybody said it will kill Television but it didn't, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Video are.

And now they even try to do something similar with YouTube Red.
Is it over? How much longer do Dougé, the AVGN and RLM have left before they can't live off of low quality internet videos anymore?

Youtube is declining, but there's something you don't seem to realize about Youtube. Those popular channels like Channel Awesome, Red Letter Media, Cinemassacre, Watch Mojo, Screw Attack, Cinema Sins, etc. only make up a small fraction of Youtube's content. There are thousands upon thousands of shows and channels on Youtube that you've never even heard of, and the reason you've never heard of them is because they literally aren't worth following at all.

Youtube isn't like cable television where if your preferred shows aren't on then you can always browse around and find something else. At first glance, it seems like it should be, but all the random content that doesn't fall under those few popular channels is literally complete dog shit. Absolutely no production value. Absolutely no artistic merit. Absolutely nothing worth watching. It's like public access television, but much much worse.

In the end, Youtube itself probably won't die, but all the random vloggers that nobody cares about will die out to the point where you only have the following content:
>The few popular channels like Channel Awesome, RLM, etc.
>Streaming music with a static image as it's "video"
>Let's Plays/Video game walkthroughs

Essentially, I'm elaborating on the point >>64470738 made. Youtube is not dying. It's gradually trimming off it's own fat.
>>
>>64470647
That won't save YouTube either, Netflix is showing tits too.
>>64470738
Really? Because it seems the biggest earners that don't have some label behind them are still vloggers and let's players.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_most_subscribed_users_on_YouTube
I think maybe only 1 or 2 of the indipendent video producers on this list could produce content that would let them survuve on some subsription based service.
>>64470915
That is true because traditional ads don't work as well anymore and people use adblockers shilling get's worse and worse. South Park hit it on the head again.
At least they have to mark it as ads now.

I'm guessing you don't know what multi-channel networks are. All of the top earners on youtube don't actually own their channels. They are owned by groups like Fullscreen and Revision 3.

>>
>>64470964
Not true at all.
The channels with only a few k subsribers make a few dollars the people behind them don't live off of YouTube so it's a hobby.
The ones that are complaining are the channel owners you mentioned minus Watch Mojo and maybe Cinema Sins. People at the 250k-3million subsriber range that live off of YouTube and make less and less money. It's the middle that is dying not the top or bottom.

Also there are very well channels with a small following but decent production value especially non English channels that do it as a hobby.
>>64471122
Yes I know they have networks behind them I just wanted to exclude stuff like Justin Biever and Katy Perry and didn't know how to express that properly.

The best YouTube channels are those belonging to people that don't use it as a way to make money, but just post autistic comment for other autists interested in the same thing.

They'll never go away, because they're not there to make money. Most of them get like 3000 views max per video. And god bless them.

Just how long can you watch someone sat in their bedroom in front of a webcam talking or playing video games before it gets boring? I've seen guys who get a few hundred views per yt video yet earn $2k+ a month on Patreon. I think some might survive just acting as surrogate friends through their streaming and live off a small hardcore fanbase giving donations and Patreon bucks.

That is why you avoid the frontpage.

2006-2008 YouTube was chill as fuck. People made videos because they liked it not to earn money.
And the communities were a lot better too.

Competition.

You have the obese fedora who thought he could make money talking about games, movies and feminism and the professional (even if he doesn't look like) guy with a script created by a group of writers and supported by a conglomerate.
It's the same with music. Who is making millions every year, Taylor Swift or that guy who used to play guitar in high school?

Also interesting aspect.

> Since December, views on YouTube have dropped 28%, and March views are only slightly above what they were a year ago, startling for a site accustomed to breakneck growth.

>It's an intended consequence of the Google-owned site's shift from a video search engine filled with snack-size content to a full-fledged, couch-potato-optimized entertainment destination. At YouTube, the "view" is out and "engagement" is in.

>After investing $100 million to create content channels, YouTube's focus has shifted from directing viewers to videos of skateboarding dogs to enticing them into longer, more engaging videos—the kind that are, not incidentally, more appealing to advertisers.
