All of Connery's are the essential Bond movies, in my opinion. I'm also a fan of Goldeneye - it's a good gateway drug into Bond, for people who have trouble digesting movies from the 60s.

I can respect that they wanted to change things up after Moonraker, but they went too far in the other direction. I've always found it boring to the point of being unwatchable. There's no real stakes, the villain is the worst in the series, the underwater scenes drag forever, Bond and Melina have zero chemistry, and that ice skater chick is just awful and unnecessary.
The scene where Bond scales the cliff up to the monetary is pretty great though.
