X-Files watching guide: Watch all mytharc episodes until S06E12 "One Son". Then season 7's Closure. By that point the series is garbage, so stick to monster-of-the-week episodes, they're the most entertaining.

Honestly, I don't even think it's aged that badly. It's way better than NCIS or CSI in terms of technobabble, even the episodes where everyone is using ancient 90s computers.
If X Files was made today and not 1992, probably the biggest difference is that half their cases would be about people filming supernatural shit on their iphones and uploading videos of ayyliums to youtube

One son is technically the series finale though, the only element left in the characters' story-arc was Samantha's abduction, which also has a phony conclusion.
X-Files was only good before they ruined it with the primary story arc about black goo government alien hybrids.
So enjoy the seasons 1-5 before they really reveal most of it.
