What are /tv/'s thoughts of the newest Tarantino?
Personally, I was pretty disappointed with The Hateful 8. Thought the pacing of the movie was glacial and the plot to be pretty bland for a Tarantino.

I liked it a lot.
I liked the slow pacing, the cinematography. I like the fact that there isn't a good guy to "root" for. I liked the final where the two guys who a reason to hate each other the most end up on the same side. I like that the charachters while sketched in just two or three phrases all have a distinct "voice".
I didn't like Tim Roth's charachter, it feels like Schultz-lite.

Loved it. I was suspicious of every word and every facial expression every character made. Edge of my seat whodunit thriller. The cartoonish gore was the cherry on top.

OP here, I agree with you on the Tim Roth character and the phenomenal cinematography. I felt that the backstories/convergence were a little too convenient. It felt as though the movie was heavy on exposition and a "telling" rather than "showing" type of story-telling.

I really enjoyed it, and it's probably my favorite movie of 2015.
What's some of the symbolism in the movie? I was trying to figure out howthe Lincoln letterfit into the whole plot - I think it's just to signify just how little truth we actually know from each character.

I thought it was interesting how everyone who talked about the letter was kind of in awe of it, even Mannix.
I figured Lincoln was a kind of symbol of peace and unity during a time of chaos and division. Basically a complete contrast to the scoundrel main characters.

Warren had already made it clear he wanted the General dead when he tried drawing on him earlier. The story was just his way of getting the General to draw first.
