No, it wasn't. First of all, you can put aside "realism" in movies like Prometheus because it's not supposed to be our universe. I mean the scientists in that movie act absolutely retarded, but if you're talking about it being unrealistic as worldbuilding it's literally irrelevant.
The Martian was way more unrealistic because it was TRYING to be realistic and it was taking place in our world. I mean, most of the movie is him just being extremely lucky, and okay, I can buy that -- but then it ends with that scene where he's going out into something connected by spaceman tape and almost nothing happens. That wasn't, the last time I checked, how atmospheres work.
The Martian also has an extremely predictable script, and I mean classroom tier.

It's likely the Chinese government will give free publicity to this film since it shows the Chinese in an extremely positive light and the sheeple will eat up the fantasy that they are that advanced.
While things can most certainly change, the U.S. is still the only nation on the planet who has sent humans to the moon (over 40 years ago) and the U.S. is the only nation on the planet to have successfully landed exploratory vehicles on Mars.
That China will have some sort of technology that the U.S. will not possess seems difficult to believe, especially considering the education system in China and its lack of meaningful IP rights.
