Rey being a Skywalker is the likeliest outcome. There's plenty hinting at it in the movie, and even without Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy makes no bones about the fact that the main Star Wars movies are about the Skywalkers.
But it could all be a bunch of lame red herrings so the writers can pretend they are clever and the crow about fooling the audience when she ends up being Rey Palpatine or whatever instead. In the end Kylo Ren exists, and even if he isn't a Skywalker in name, he is one in blood. So as long as he stays central to the movies, they are covered in that respect.

Ben left Rey in Jakku. Because they were both supposed to train under Luke, and Ben had already plans of becoming the next Darth Vader and knew he had to kill her if she was a Jedi. So he tried to protect her from himself. That's the reason why he goes so mad when he finds out the droid escaped with a girl in Jakku, because he knows who the girl is.
Rey was one of the padawans in Luke's academy. She somehow survived the massacre or was spared by Knights of Ren/Kylo himself, and her family isn't really important (or it will be the big twist for Ep.IX)
Kylo Ren knows her because they trained together. It's also the reason why he wants to train her.

Guys, you're missing the point. Star wars is like poetry, it rhymes.
In the ep. 8 Kylo is going to say that the force is strong with that one and his master is going to ask him to convert her to the dark side. They're going to have a lightsaber fight in which he'll cut off Rey's hand and he's going to say to her that he is her brother. I know it sounds pretty boring and obvious, but that's just how things work.
Maybe she'll cut his hand off, it pretty much can be both ways. Probably they'll cut off each other's hands.

It would explain why she's so overpowered in the Force and ties up a lot of the foreshadowing in VII without resorting to her being related to Skywalker.
