Lucas forgot she existed within moments of writing her final speaking scene. It was only once Lucas had written himself into a corner, and needed a conflict to progress the story, that she was mentioned again.

Do the Jedi even care about slavery? Maybe freeing her just never occurred to them because, aside from Anakin who grew up as a slave, Jedi don't see it as a big deal. It would be like flying to the Philippines to track down some person's live-in maid and drag her to the embassy to send her to America, all for the sake of her long lost son who took a vow to not care about family anyway.

You have Master/Padawan attachments, and there's one episode of TCW where you have a pair of twin Jedi and it's obvious they're attached to each other when one of them is killed.
