Mad Men was horrible about the one in the OP.

They'd bring back characters or mention events from three or four seasons prior sometimes and you'd instantly know where the episode was heading because it'd be included in the 'Previously On...', like the time they included a throwaway line about how important it was for an agency to have a car at the start of the episode where they first get their car.

Considering how much Weiner hated giving anything away, he must really not have liked those.
