Why are all the scenes with Palpatine so good and all the ones without him so boring?

Because he has

They aren't. They're fucking awful and poorly acted.

He's overacting while EVERYONE else is underacting. He does different voices while everyone else is monotone.

And yet Obi-Wan wins due to tactical advantage, his character, and the emotional thrust of the story, not because of "durr prequel spinny shit".

Of course there's spectacle before that. Did you seriously think Luke was going to in The Empire Strikes Back when Darth Vader is throwing shit at him? No, that's just the action before the dramatic climax.

You realize that Sith was supposed to be the last Star Wars movie right? It only makes sense for the climax of one of the largest cinematic universes ever to be really fucking spectacular and huge. That's why I love RotS. None of the other movies come close to achieving the same space opera feel, at least not on the same level.
>>
>>64404547
don't

he'll just start foaming about "lightsaber battles with actual weight and emotion"
>>
>>64404642

Except that would be an idiotic argument in that case, because the duel in Sith probably has more emotional weight than any of the other movies except the climax of Jedi.
>>
Palpatine is only good because Ian McDiarmid knows how to play the character. Somehow he was able to do a good evil emperor even with lucas's horrible directing.
>>
>>64401610
Classically trained theater actors are just genuinely better actors than the nepotism that Hollywood churns out.
>>
>>64404547
The duel in RotJ was no where near as lengthy and "spectacular". Which one was more memorable?

Because Ian McDiarmid has done acting in theatres his entire career and actually knows how to act and portray a character through dialogue and expressions.

In other words: He's the only one who really knows what he's doing.

I wouldn't say that's fair. The other actors in the prequels all have acting chops as well. Maybe not 10/10 but they've played in other movies where they've done a hell of a job. I'd say the limiting factor is George Lucas's terrible direction. Maybe McDiarmid was able to do well despite the awful direction because of his theatre background though.

They both were? A world exists outside of /tv/ you know, a lot of people like RotS, and a lot of people like that duel.
Pic related is easily one of the most iconic images of Star Wars.

RotJ desu, but RotS is a close second imo
>>

I'll take back some of what I said. George's direction had a huge influence, and some even did well with it, such as McGregor. Christopher Lee is also another one who played his part well. His script was just not as good as Palpatine's.

Clearly vast numbers of people disagree, considering that things like Darth Maul, Grevious, Clone Troopers, Pod Racers and the Mustafar duel are all extremely iconic and are considered representative of the franchise.

The argument is comparing the PT and OT. Stop trying to defend the dogshit that is the PT by mentioning the dogshit that is TFA
>>
>>64406471

A) They literally brought him back from the dead in the cartoon because people liked him so much.

B) I've never seen a shirt with Vito Corleogne either. That doesn't mean he isn't iconic.

If nerds in Star Wars shirts is how you judge how iconic a character is, then you are fucked.
>>
>>64406651
>iconic characters cannot be judged on their references in other pop culture media.

Again; no one cares about Maul. Pretty much every character in the OT is more iconic than Maul, even fucking Binks has more of a claim than Maul does.
