Inthe original cut there is a very graphic and brutal scene which anakin methodically slaughters the younglings complete with screaming and dismemberment, but lucas's editors to it out without his knowledge until the first screening of the film in which afterwards lucas fired the entire editing staff responsible

The take was bad, but it was actually quite appropriate to give the kid a British accent. The SW equivalent of a British accent is a Coruscanti accent, and since the Jedi temple is on Coruscant, these kids spent there entire lives raised around Coruscanti dialect speakers.
I believe the ROTS novelization explains this when it mentions Obi-wan's "strong Coruscanti accent" or something to that extent, iirc.

See, this makes sense, and I have a feeling it probably came from script notes / the mind of George Lucas rather than the novelization author going on a tangent. If George found a decent director and screenwriter to convey this sort of information for him rather than leaving it as an assumption (as he did in the final film), the prequels would have been much better.
