Unless Disney has aspergers this seems like the way to go. VII was, tonally and plot-wise, a very poor showing. It took no risks, even going so far as to give Luke no lines. JJ just passed the buck, essentially, to Rian Johnson, who I believe to be a superior film-maker and director in every way. The obvious way to go is to focus on Rey and Luke (and Chewie, lmao) on Jedi Island, repairing their relationship with Luke explaining his motivation (actual reasons given) for leaving her on Jakku and why he's reluctant to train her. That SHOULD occupy like 2/3rds of the movie but will probably be more like 1/3rd, since they still need to develop Kylo/Snoke and follow Finn after he gets out of the clinic. This will probably result in some sort of showdown with Snoke at the end of VII, where Rey may or may not fall to the dark side, with Finn taking the mantle of Protagonist for IX.

It's pretty hard to make a real menacing villian that is also an impossibly beautiful/hot woman, but in a dark and warped way. In most of ideas you end up with at least one ingredient missing.
It's also too easy to half-ass it and tap into sexual undertones.
