Thansk Tarantino for finally sending me over the edge to join the dark side.
>>
>That’s where the film ends, with Domergue — covered in blood from head to shot-off toe — begging for her life, and two men, all but dead, hanging her anyway. Those men, the hitchhikers, Confederate and Union, sheriff and bounty hunter. We finally learn what will bring them together: a lethal hatred of women. And the sides, we’re led to believe, are clear cut. Men are the winners, and women, the losers.

>I’m left wondering who the victim of this film is. Who does Tarantino think deserves the last laugh? I hate to take the last shot at face value, but how can you not? There it is, two men, stringing up a woman, laughing their guts out. The joke's on her.

>I know why The Hateful Eight is a film, and not a play though. Audiences wouldn't react quite so kindly if they had to watch a real woman on the stage, her neck snared in the noose. We'd have no editing to cut away from the horror, reminding the audience to smile.

Why did Minnie invite the Mexican in her haberdashery if she hated mexicans?

Why didn't the gang shoot the Hangman while his back was turned when he was hammering the plank to the door?

Why didn't the gang just shoot Warren immediately after the Hangman was poisoned? They had guns hidden everywhere

Why did the guy in the basement wait until after Warren shot the Mexican before shooting Warren's balls off?

Why didn't he shoot Warren again immediately afterwards, while he was crawling on the ground?

How did Warren and the Hangman not notice a single member of the gang, even though they have massive bounties on their heads and are reportedly famous?

Why did the gang offer the deal to only the confederate old man, and not the other old man?

Why did Goggins suddenly fall down, only to get back up minutes later?

I hate the Hateful Eight but it's so apparent that Jackson told such a ludicrous story so he could kill the General in "self defense."

I mean why wouldn't he just shoot the cracker dead? There was no point in keeping the white guy alive.
>>
Just got done watching 70mm roadshow, movie looked and sounded really Fucking good. Jackson pretty much steals the show. Reminded me alot like that movie "eye see you". The dialogue between the general and Jackson was a little overdone but still funny. Pretty much everyone laugh when changing Tatum got his head blown off. Soundtrack is fantastic. Near the end, there's a bit pulled straight from John carpenter 's the thing.

Only downside is that it drags on , but it's a Tarantino film. Would watch again.

Why wasn’t Goggins upset after Warren gunned down the General?

Why wouldn't Bob, the Cowboy and the English Hangman be pissed that the Hangman was tossing their pistols down a toilet? Guns cost money and no one's paying them for their loss.

Why did the Hangman even need to toss the guns down the toilet? They were dismantled.

Why did the English Hangman ask to see Daisy's arrest warrant? What was the point? He already knew who she was.

Why did they stake out lines to the barn and outhouse? It didn't play a role in the movie later on.

Earlier in the movie people stated that if anyone killed any man, while unarmed, they would hang.

Jackson told the story to anger the general enough to pick up the gun, to justify killing him.

Also...bullshit its misogynic because she was hung.

Bad is bad, good is good. Russel was asked if he felt bad about killing her and he said no, shes a filthy killing bitch.

It's feminist to want equality, not special treatment. She was a vicious murderer, she deserved to die just like a man.

Devil's advocate here

1) She thought that the money from having them all stay there was more important than her hatred of Mexicans, or she'd gotten over it

2) They would've had to deal with SLJ, the driver, and the sheriff as well, and make sure that Daisy wasn't shot in the mess

3) Same as above

4) Because shit was starting to go down, and it was the best advantage he'd had the whole movie

5) I'm wondering that myself. The movie skips from SLJ on the floor to limping into the bed

6) Warren and Hangman barely recognized each other, and Warren didn't even know who Daisy was. There weren't a whole lot of pictures back then either, let alone of some members of a gang that probably try to keep their faces hidden whenever they are doing illegal shit.

7) The other old man was one of the owners if I remember correctly, so he would've thrown their whole story off

8) Poor writing desu
>>
>>64410692
Red Apple cigarettes. They mention it by name multiple times and you see a box of them. There was probably more, but that's all I noticed.
>>
7/10 flick but I didn't pay for it so whatever. My biggest gripe is that Quentin didn't get the actor that played Child's in The Thing to play Sam Jacksons part since he obviously wanted to reference that movie as much as possible.
>>
>>64411374
Nah that'd be overkill, might as well make Kurt Russell live to the end too
>>
Why is this movie getting so many bad ratings?

Its literally fine the only problems I had with it is how the gang had a million chances to kill everyone and didnt do it.
>>
>>64411487
They didn't want Daisy hurt so they were probably just waiting for Russell and Jackson to go to sleep and do it then but Gage fucked up by being hasty and poisoning the coffee.
>>
>>64405535
1)No good reason really. Reason I thought up was since hes literally the most honest character he will uphold the law as sheriff and the man pulled a gun
2)They were kind of upset which is why sam jackson put a knife to the first dudes neck
3)Nitpicking here the point was to take the guns out of the equation entirely
4)Playing the role of the hangman?
5)To set the scene?

>>64404833
1)I dunno maybe enough time had passed that she stopped caring.
2)Bad writing
3)Bad writing
4)We arent shown exactly how much of the room Channing Tatum can see so he might have been out of his vision for the time
5)See above
6)Not really sure, maybe they never got a chance to see their wanted poster.
7)They were gonna kill everyone but decided last second not to cause he fit well with the scenery
8)Blood loss made him faint? Loud noise woke him up?
>>

I couldn't stand it, but that's what made it good. I don't know if I'll ever watch it again.

That story about Warren killing that one guy's son... hoo buddy. That was the turning point. This film could not be salvaged for any decency after that.

I like the lack of restraint too. Daisy getting punched around was something I haven't seen in a film in a long time, at least not that blatant. Really added to how much I despised the characters.
>>
>>64412901
I looked up some reviews before watching the movie and most of the bad reviews' main complaints were that the movie was too violent or graphic. Which is weird if these people have ever seen a Tarantino movie before, especially in the last 10 years.
>>
>>64412958
Yeah I agree. There was less gore but it made such a huge impact. Might have been because you've been with all these characters for a good hour and a half, and watching them get picked off one by one was... well, in terms of plot and overall satisfaction, it worked very well.
>>

Just got back from seeing this movie. Usually a fan of Tarantino's schlock but this one left me feeling a bit baffled (and I was full well expecting the warm black dingus scene).

I'll echo what others have said in this thread when I say that the greatest thing that could have benefited the movie was a proper editor. With a runtime of nearly 3 hours, you'd expect it to be some kind of incredibly nuanced masterpiece; instead, it's a standard, visceral Tarantino flick, with another hour and a half tacked on. Plenty of fat (not to mention shock value that serves no real narrative purpose) could have been trimmed to make this a solid QT film. As it stands, it's one of his worst, imo.

>>64399260
>I heard Tarantino spends a lot of time in editing himself, and he really hates to cut anything he films.
If that's the case, we may have witnessed Tarantino's "George Lucas moment". He's not a great director, but he makes fun, solid, stylistic popcorn movies. However, he seems to think he's a great director and has reached that point in his career where he's popular enough to live out that delusion.

Unfortunately, the freedom to act like an auteur is the death knell of creative people, it seems.

>>64398863
The ending was definitely trying to ape or recreate Reservoir Dogs. The standoff was almost exactly the same (not that Tarantino didn't crib that from another source to begin with, City on Fire).
>>
>>64412958

there's something bizarre and different about the violence and gore in h8ful compared to QT's previous works

in most of his other stuff you can chalk up the gratuitous blood to serving SOME purpose--whether it's to fit with the overarching style of the film or to color in a character

what I think throws people about the violence here is the complete pointlessness of much of the violence, in particular the massacre of minnie and co. in the flashback. in a bloated three hour picture the audience is subjected to a 30 minute flashback that only reaffirms what the audience already knows (save a couple of details) and otherwise only sets up the mutilation of what may as well have been care bears, so over-the-top they were in their innocence

i love some good ultraviolence but that whole scene did nothing but revel in itself

i never thought multiple counts of murder could be so boring
>>
>>64414607
I feel like Tarantino was surrounded by yes men for the entire film, hence its length and general mediocrity
>>
>>64414824
Yeah, I got the same impression. He seems to have taken the liberty of creating exactly the movie he wanted to make, eschewing the usual limitations like a reasonable runtime and quality narrative, at his viewer's expense.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I'm sure there are diehard QT fans out there who loved the movie for exactly the same reasons I disliked it. It's three hours of raw Tarantino - that much is indisputable.
>>
the movie fell apart for me when there was a dude under the house

>>64397934

>>
>>64414824
>>64414971
The movie's not any longer than his other movies. The 70mm version has some added stuff (making it a little over 3 hours) but the normal version is about 2:45 which is around the same length as Django Unchained and I think Basterds too.
>>
>>64414624
The flashback didn't have to be as long as it was, but it was cool for the before/after tonal reflection of the setting
>>
Watching this movie made me feel cold.
>>
second time around it might be even better. I saw it digital and was glad it redeemed itself over the shitty Seattle AMC projection.

This was before Facebook. You know names, you know reputations. You don't know their faces or what they sound like.
You can't just hear someone's name, and look them up, and then go ah I know what he looks like. You don't assume some random white folks you meet in a fucking cabin in the middle of nowhere Wyoming are these famous outlaws.
>>
>>64405915
Finally, this. Like it's even more apparent with this movie than Star Wars. "It dragged in the middle", "too slow"
>>
Did anyone like the theme song? I couldn't stop humming it to myself
>>
>>64405376
It was a strong strategy to eliminate all the loose ends. He knew from the start that everyone but the party he rode in with (excluding Domergue) were not to be trusted. He was a ruthless pragmatist, using the same brilliance he used to write the Lincoln Letter to trick the white man.

The movie was brilliant, just admit it.
>>
You fags actually watched the new star wars?
>>
Why was that one sherrif cracka runnin through the snow at the start? Where was he coming from?
>>
>>64417383
I think he said his horse died or something but I could be wrong. I know SLJ's character also said this. The guy was traveling from some other town to Red Rock to be the sheriff I imagine.
>>
>>64417383

He literally says he was heading to Redwood when his horse broke it's leg
>>
>>64417336
I walked in before my movie to see what was going on, I saw that jedi hunny talking to Han in a shop. He looked old, she was asking too many questions.. pass!
>>
>>64417383
I don't remember, I was high as fuck, but something just occurred to me.

What if this "Sheriff" was lying too? He could've been a renegade or a wanted man, who teamed with the General because it was advantageous to his survival. This means the ending could've been some spiritual nod to another Russell-starred masterpiece, The Thing. The two sat in the cold... waiting for the moment one would betray the other. After all, the Sheriff was a Southerner and hated niggers. Think about it.
>>

>>
When it comes out on blu ray someone will make a re-edit that cuts out 30 or 40 minutes worth of them sitting around doing nothing, and the movie will be much better for it. They don't get to the haberdashery until like 40 minutes in, and then they sit around doing nothing of any importance until the general gets gunned down. I know they need some time spent having the characters bounce off each other and setting the stage for being trapped in the blizzard, but hardly any of it was interesting.
>>
>>64391400
The program, Overture, and Intermission absolutely made the experience for this movie.

The 70mm was very nice (first I've ever seen) but wasn't all that. Being able to talk about the first half and expectations for the second half during Intermission at the bar was fucking amazing.

The movie itself was quality Tarantino, though he's still been unable to reach the level of his 90s masterpieces.

>>
Anyone have any idea what the 7 or so minutes added to the roadshow cut were? Just random shots outside?
>>
>>64417993
A small, 10-page little booklet explaining the making of the film (from small stage production to film) with a bunch of production screens and intros to each character.

It was a pretty nice thing to flip through during the Overture.
>>
>>64418015
You're not missing out on much. Aside from the sentimental value, it's mainly some production photos and them talking up the movie.
>>
>>64418027
Yeah, I think they were just landscape shots to show off the 70mm. Plus the overture and intermission.
>>

benifits of 70mm:
>6 track audio
>added quality, color depth ect
>if blown up big, looks as good, if not better than a 35mm print.
this, of course, depends on your projectionist if he's doing his job correctly.

personally, DCP < 35mm < 70mm < 15/70 IMAX

The film expanded to 1,958 theaters on Wednesday where it earned $3.5 million and then another $3.1m on Thursday. It earned $6.43 million yesterday in 2,474 theaters for what will likely be a $17m weekend. With $19.8m as of yesterday, said weekend total should put the ten-day cume for the film over $30m, which is about 75% of its $44m production budget.
