Has Michael Madsen which is + and Walt Goggins another +, but doesn't have Kurt Russell killing 88 yakuza members or being trained by old-wise kung fu zen master, sooo I'm torn.

Wait until you get shot in one.

You'll be carried out of the theater at best.
>>
>A disturbing part of this film is the graphic detail Samuel L. Jackson gets into describing him raping and sexually assaulting a white man. While Quentin Tarantino makes cameos in his movies he doesn't here, he does for the first time in this movie start narrating right after this descriptive scene. He is lisping with delight as he talks.

It's definitely excellent, but it's one of his upper-mid tier works.

liked it a lot better than django. But it doesnt top Resevoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction. Id say slightly above average for Tarantino and a very good flick overall

I really QT should have put more scenes of people nailing the door shut, theres was only 3 scenes of that god dammit I wanted more door nailing
>>
>>64383647
What's the matter? Did the word "Nigger" offend you?
>>
>>64383185
No, but it's much better than Django.
Of course plebs will hate it since instead of being an epic western with a sympathetic hero, quirky dialogue and fast pacing, is a slow mistery drama where everyone is an asshole.
>>
>>64383682
if it did, then it's likely that anon would call django the worst.

if you're not a retard, that is.
>>
>>64383618
>gritty over cartoony
That's exactly how this film was though.
>>
>drama

It's a fucking comedy. His last three movies have been violent black comedies.
>>
>>64383704
none of tarantino's films have fast pacing, every fucking scene goes on for 10 minutes, what on earth are you shitting about
>>
>>64383704
Mannix was a good guy.
>>
>>64383185
I think it is. Most especially it's the first film he's done where two characters I cared about got to bond without one or both being dead at the end, which made it almost touching for me.

>>64383618
I don't think Tarantino has ever done a "gritty" film, it's just that it took a while for people to start recognizing his quirks for what they were.

people were much less used to graphic violence in popular movies in the early 90s and so he could get away with making stylized lulzfests that got treated like lowkey art films because of how he executes them.
>>
It was mediocre like everything else he has done since Pulp Fiction.

And the best post Pulp film is Django.

And the best fim he's been involved with is True Romance.

The best script he has written is Kill Bill.

I will not entertain opposing views, so don't bother responding.
>>
>>64383749
Compared to this, they do.
>>
>>64383749
Django was relatively brisk until they get to Candyland and the whole film started to regress into being a blaxploitation parody.
>>
>>64383729
It was full of comedic dialogue and over the top violence like his last two films. It's bloody, but it's not gritty.
>>
same old tired Tarantino formula:

>70s homage
>actors who ere big in the 80s and 70s
>mixing parts of other better movies instead of doing new material
>quirky cameos
>3 hours long (could have easily been cut to 90 minutes)
>all characters sound like Taratino
>gratuitous violence

he peaked with Jackie Brown
>>
>>64383788

the characters remain totally faceless, the dialogues feel forced, the whole story didn't really convince me in any way and felt like a cheap excuse to throw in these random characters in the same place
there's a lot of style over substance (obviously), but it felt out of place many times like when they carefully go in position to shoot denfenseless women and give each other signals.. what for? It just dragged on the scene

the comic look of exploding heads and shit also isn't funny anymore and felt out of place, I guess the dark comedy touch was necessary to seperate it from reservoir dogs, but it's never exciting like reservoir dogs, I didn't care about the characters at all, I just waited for them to die so I could turn it off

all in all, it's the first movie of tarantino that I didn't like and thought he's starting to turn into a hack
>>
>>64383749
Django Unchained and Kill Bill I are most definitely fast paced movies

Does anyone else find scenes like this more disturbing than gore/torture porn?

I feel I'm desensitized to most everything, but this is the kind of shit that still gives me the fucking chip. I don't like seeing kindness being met with cruelty, hospitality with hostility, etc.

Like imagine if your mom made a batch of cookies for your classmates or coworkers and suddenly one them just walks up to her, knocks the tray out of her hands, spits in her face and laughs.

I realize that was the point and I'm going to be called a pussy or autistic for even bringing it up, but I just really hate seeing bad things happen to good, decent people. It's like watching an animal abuse video.

Most horror movies are easy to watch because the victims are all cunts and assholes. But this plucky kiwi didn't deserve that shit.

Whatever.

Based Tarantino.
>>
>>64383854
>>64383874
I know that Warren at least died, the point is the movie ended with them being bros, like in The Thing. it's a question of the way the movie treated the emotional arc: they administered justice, overcame their differences and had a laugh, roll credits. Tarantino is actually amazingly shit at delivering this in the majority of his films.
>>
wasn't bad, wasn't good.
literal 5/10 flick

>>
>>64383963
The whole story was a lie though.
>>
>>64383842

not at all

he hates that one general because they both fought in the same battle and the rebel general killed a bunch of surrendering black union soldiers. The movie basically ends with the black guy and some southern confederate raider working together and being bros
>>
>>64383967
>they administered justice
That wasn't justice, did you miss the dialogue about the difference between justice and revenge at the beginning of the movie?
>>
>>64383967
>being bros, like in The Thing
are you high? Mcready was salty as fuck for losing to the Thing (Childs) they werent bros
>>
>>64383874
Reservoir dogs ends with the characters being very obviously shot dead, not with their final fates being implied.

RD ending is shit anyway because the undercover cop confessing is undermotivated and Harvey Keitel's character is straight out of a Marvel comic strip.
>>
>>64383967
>>64384028
also
>the movie ended with them being bros, like in The Thing
Uh, at the end of The Thing the nigger is likely an alien, they're not bros at all.

I know more about film than this entire board collectively.

This is not b8 or hyperbole.

You'd do well to listen to me rather than argue from a place of ignorance and remain plebs.

Just sayin.
>>
>>64384049
>the undercover cop confessing is undermotivated

you are autistic if you couldnt understand why he did that
>>
>>64384049
if you didnt pick up the subtlety about the relationship between Roth and Keitel characters I recommend to please go watch the movie again
>>
>>64384028
you mean the dialogue delivered by one of the outlaws?

given Tarantino's filmography, do you actually think he has a higher regard for passionless execution than the bad men getting shot in the face?

they were quoting Kurt Russell's words about hanging mean bastards. Sam Jackson's dingus story was also motivated by his desire to take an opportunity to deliver justice and he laughed a LOT during that.
>>
>>64384047
>>64384069
the tone of the ending of the Thing would be completely different if we knew for certain that Childs was the Thing. if a lack of ambiguity was important they would have included it in the film.

online theories are fun, but MacReady drinking was actually a decision to end a film about mistrust with that implied human solidarity. it doesn't matter at that point whether Childs is the Thing or not from the point of view of the character because he can't do anything about it - the point is that he doesn't know but decides to trust him anyway.
>>
>>64384096

So its pretty much confirmed this story was a lie right?

>General says he knows his son is dead because he would have definitely come back home by now
>This means he knows the reason why his son left
>he would have known his son went to hunt Warren down, and him not coming back means Warren killed him instead

But the general doesnt really give a shit about Warren. He doesnt really know who he is and when he learns hes just like "well fuck that nigga!"
>>
>>64384096
I understood why the movie wanted us to think the character did it. I just didn't buy it as real human behavior. It was a Shocking Movie Ending to me.

>hurr autism
>>
>>64384175

>I have arrested development and cant understand emotions so the movie sucks!

I'll try to explain this to you, but they basically became friends while he was doing undercover work and Keital was the only one looking after him and trying to help him when he was dying and he felt guilty for lying to him

GO FUCKING WATCH A SERIOUS MAN OR SOMETHING AND STOP CIRCLEJERKING OVER WHAT 'REALLY' HAPPENED IN A FICTIONAL STORY.
>>
>>64384173
again are you high?

Mcready doesnt trust Childs he knows he is the thing and offers the drink the same way he poured liquor on the chess computer and the beginning of the movie, he acknowledges The Thing but he is a sore loser and is going to kill it anyway, according to the script Mcready has a flamethrower hide under his clothes, even if he kills the thing he lost anyway and he is salty as fuck theres no happy ending about trust here
>>
>>64383949
no it shows that Tarantino has an underlying sense of fair play in spite of his memery that he differentiated between this kind of violence and the mucking around in the main timeline.

Sure, it's left ambiguous.
Still, you can't say there was trust. Those two were just wounded animals studying each others and waiting to die, I didn't feel any solidarity or understanding at the end of that movie.
>>
>>64384290
>in the script

yeah I think Carpenter went with a different ending on purpose.

he could have revealed to the audience that MacReady had a flamethrower but he didn't.

>are you high?

it's the result of me watching movies and looking at what actually happens in them instead of finding out about the stories they tell from DVD commentaries and scripts that weren't shot in the way the screenwriter wanted.
>>
>>64384336
needing everything to be fixed in a single incontestable version of events that everyone agrees is correct is much more autistic.
>>
>>64384405
>discussing an ambiguous part of a movie and coming up with your ideas of what happened and then sharing them with others is autistic!

yes, never discuss movies. Just watch them, and then never think about them or share your opinions about them with others!
>>
>>64384116
Do you think SJ was a positive character?
Do you think any of them was in the position of administering justice?
Usually violence in Tarantino is just ludic, but in this movie they took the time to bring up the issue and even express different viewpoints about it, so it was abviously intentional.
>>
>>64384286
A Serious Man was, like most Coen's movies, about the impotence of the individual against life.
It had nothing to do about ambiguity in fiction.

not even
it was western reservoir dogs
except it wasn't good
the tone was all over the place, it had experimental bits where Tarantino actually narrated some parts out of nowhere by reading the script. The first time it was to explain to the audience about the guy who poisoned the coffee but then there was no reason to narrate.
Then the mood changes from serious/casual banter to white man sucking black dick, to Samuel Jackson's slow motion yell, to the last scenes being just dark humor
Don't get me wrong, it was definitely a Tarantino film, it has his style all over it with the music and the banter, but this is just not a strong movie by him

Not under nigger moral values. Is not gay to fuck a man in prison for example, getting fucked is. Ancient greeks also had this kind of concept, the fucked represents the passive-receiving-feminine part of the relationship, while masculinity in the other subject is empowered.

Of course it's still a gay relationship, but when you have a fucked up way of understanding domination and so on it becomes pretty logic
