On one technicality, yes, but the ending has Ash ending up a century too far into the future from where he started. When the movie came out, it was a tongue-in-cheek way of basically saying game over and goodbye to the franchise and only gingerly leaving the door marginally ajar without resorting to time travel machines nonsense as opposed to the established, greatly more palatable super-duper slumber potions.
I don't deny AOD's importance to Evil Dead lore, but I would be keen to say that AOD has any long-standing relevance or resonance with AvED beyond nods and subtleties. MIND YOU, however, the picture of Ash in the Necronomicon in this first season finale was very reminiscent to his little vacation to the swords-'n'-stunt-cords distant past. Only unrealistic hope I have for this show is that they smooth out the problems with Universal Studios and get the whole show on the road; past that, they've got work-arounds and there's no definite barment letter on skeleton soldiers or general medieval elements.
