I hate to go against the grain but:

The first real boxing match plus this scene are worth watching the movie alone. Everything else is rather shit.

They really did a good job with this though.
>>
>>64379979
>The first real boxing match plus this scene are worth watching the movie alone. Everything else is rather shit.

The first boxing match was one of the best fight scenes I'd ever seen on film. Last one has great emotional heights. I'd disagree with you about the rest being shit though. I liked the character enough to care about his journey and for once the whole romantic interest part didn't feel completely superfluous and tacked on.
>>
>>64380017
The first real fight (one with the other guys son) is literally one of the best boxing matches on film since Cinderella Man. It MAKES this film.

I can respect praise for this movie solely based on it. If you can respect his riches to rags story, so be it.
>>
>>64380045
I can certainly see the problem with that, but it's a staple of the existential crisis in which well off people throw away convenience to find themselves. I admit such shit can sometimes annoy me, but it okay here, at least he didn't go into the woods.

flies in the face of reality right at the start. Adonis doesn't NEED to be a boxer, he chooses that path, despite the danger and the low chances of success, because of his genetic tie to Apollo.

This whole fucking mess is bullshit. Most boxers are minorities not because Mexicans, Cubans, Blacks, or whomever are 'naturally good at boxing' any more than the Irish were back in the day. IT WAS THE ONLY FUCKING JOB THEY COULD GET. So they got good at it in the fly weights and lower levels, where as all the rich fucking WASP kids who COULD have been good at boxing found out that banking made more fucking money than punching a dude and having him punch you in the face until you were concussed and permanently cross eyed.

"Great White Hope" phenomenon happened because at some point it became obvious that boxing was for people at the lowest rungs of society, which in America was dominated by lunatics who focused on solidarity through skin color. If you're white, you're right. End of interview, you are hired for the job that doesn't involve getting punched in the face. Fucking joke of a movie.

It's implied that Adonis is an angry, frustrated kid who can fight when he's very young. I'm sure when he learned who his biological father was as a fierce kid he idolized him and imagined him fighting as him before the feelings of frustration and conflict about his identity started gnawing at him.

Even when no one wants to train him and he has to go across the border he still fights. I imagine he only worked at the other thing as a means to satisfy his surrogate mother until he could simply stand it no more.
>>
>>64381649
I thought he wanted to be a boxer because he spent his formative years in the custody of the state, which basically meant he would never be anything but completely fucked in the head. So after being total fight or flight for the entirety of his first conscious years, being thrown into the "exciting" world of proper education and finance left him empty.

Which is all to say the movie not only didn't need the rocky and creed bullshit, that bullshit was entirely to the detriment of the narrative. The conflict in the movie could've been directly about what you're talking about. No one in the boxing world taking him seriously because he had a proper education and a high paying job, everyone thinking he's a rich tourist because he had enough money to just relocate to another coast like it was nothing. The movie could have been about class warfare, instead its rocky fanfiction.

>>
Just watched it.

Angry orphan mad at his absent father just lacked the personality to make an interesting protagonist. They could have thought up something better than dissatisfied corporate worker who moonlights as a boxer in Mexico. Think that's just a plain bizarre plot point.

If it was me handling the story, I would have made it so Adonis was proud of his father and sometimes he flaunts it, but it was a lie his mom told him as a kid and people don't believe him. Boxing gyms see him as a show boating joke and don't take him seriously. Maybe he sets out to find Rocky who is pretty certain he isn't Creed's son but doesn't say and instead helps Adonis be his own person in the ring.

The straight hereditary angle goes against the spirit of being an underdog to me.
>>
Completely mediocre, utterly pointless remake.

Wasn't even bad. Just...worthless. Really boring too.
>>
>>64382684
Creative, when will you be putting this together? For another boxing movie obviously.
>>
>>64382684

There was nothing interesting about the film. The result of having to stretch a pointless stort out of thin air to graft onto a resequel of Rocky.

I think they probably did the best they could do with this concept. It's such a forced film.

Worst movie I've seen all year, and that's not a hyperbole. There's been a lot of banal shit like TFA, Ex Machina, Revenant... But dear Christ, this movie was just a walking cliche with an unlikable actor filled by horrifying scenes and the worst OST in a Rocky movie to date.

Some shit was legitimately triggering:

>the retarded gf that gets mad over him not saying who he is despite having no reason to do so
>rocky getting cancer just lol
>that scene where the biker stops to encourage him

And by far the WORST

>that copy of rocky's jog where they all follow him on their ridiculous contraption and nignog music is blasting

Just no.

There was also no basis on which to find this nigger relatable. I mean in most sports movies the players are poor and have shitty lives, and maybe that's a cliche, but it's a cliche for a reason, and the single one I would'e stuck to.

Instead he's going around getting praise from everyone and basically living in Batman's mansion, and I'm supposed to feel bad for him? Just...

I guess the character was my least favorite part of the movie. I also dislike this actor.

Fuck Wallace.
>>
>i dont like michael b jordan but everyone is praising the movie

>>
>>64386347

It's extremely long and boring.

Have you seen Rocky? Imagine that but much longer and with everything you like about that film missing. Michael B. Jordan has the screen presence of a lump of wood. There is a completely pointless and time wasting romance subplot that has nothing to do with the rest of the film. The Gonna Fly Now montage homage scene is cringe worthy.
