Part of the reason their arrogance was so great was because they really were genuinely nice people, it was just buried under a laundry list of neuroses and obsession with how people viewed them. Instead of it making the show cliche and formulaic, it reminded me more of the classic comedies where the protagonist often found themselves in similar situations due to their constantly reoccurring foibles.

I thought it was an... okay relationship. They worked together as Yin and Yang, although the Yin did turn too much into Yang and it ruined her characterisation. I don't think it so much to do with character as it did with actor chemistry - Hyde Pierce and Leeves had very very little chemistry as actors who acted as though they were in a relationship together. To be brutally honest, the show should've ended immediately just as Niles and Daphne got together.

Rude tbph. In my opinion, the relationship between Niles and Daphne did not work very well, as the pertaining actors had virtually no chemistry with each other. Even though there was very little drop in quality in the last four seasons, as far as characterisation is concerned, I think that it would have been perfectly valid for 'Frasier' to end just as Niles' and Daphne's relationship was solidified and established.
