rather then use that time to rebuild and recenter the caste around each other, they instead took the qualities of both characters, mashed them together, gave them to a new character who could not act, had no chemistry with the cast, and was generally just unfunny to the extreme.
then, after the backlash, instead of trying something else they double downed turning the flanderization of every character up to 11 and shoved randy down our throats even harder

I started marathoning this on NYE and I can't believe that I never noticed how obtrusive the laugh track was right from the start. My god, they use it after every line and it's sooooo loud.
There was some pretty inventive stuff for an otherwise generic sitcom though. The pot smoking scenes were clever and there were some pretty good fantasy sequence stuff. Also, the weird psychedelic interludes actually are pretty comfy.
