I liked the movie, but some of his catchphrases are awful. The tone of the movie was good, and for most of the movie, Watney is bearable, he goes through shit but remains quirky.
But at some moments I thought I was watching a bad sitcom where he was trying to harvest laughs with easy one-liners, it just needed an annoying laugh track to look like a Big Bang Theory episode.
Still better than the nigger in OP though.

I read the book when it first came out, it was fairly good, though it was a bit lengthy in it's scientific explanations. I haven't seen the movie, but when I heard it was being turned into a film, it surprised me. It doesn't seem like it would translate well to film.
