just saw BIG BLACK DINGUS in 70mm

9/10 landscape visuals, unfortunately they were infrequent

7/10 other cinematography

9/10 special effects

3/10 mystery a big reveal with only a misplaced jellybean as a clue does not have that strong of an effect. well I guess there was that part about the guy poisoning the coffee with the chick witnessing it

5/10 history. black dingus claimed to join the union army to kill southern whites, and "accidentally" killed all sorts of whites, but the confederate general was clear about wanting to kill blacks. this makes the audience feel that all confederate generals/soldiers are like this, and were not just fighting for states rights, or defection from the union instead also a distinct new zealand accent in the late 1800s? give me a break

7/10 overall, good but not great, I'd probably download a blu ray copy when it comes out and pay attention to the dialogue and details more.
>>

I don't think the jellybean was a clue, I think it was just foreshadowing
>>
>>64326699
when black dingus saw the jellybean, it was after the jar was shot by one of those other guys.
black dingus saw it and knew something was up, he knew minnie well and probably knew she kept a clean house

I think the stew was the major clue, but he may of thought that was a little suspicious but not necessarily. Did he ever bring that up?
>>
>>64327114
I did not notice anything other than the mexican makes shit coffee, and good stew. So I thought it was just a coincidence. I did not think about the stew until he started using it as evidence against the mexican.
when he said everyone's stew tastes the same no matter the meat, I thought they killed and cooked this "minnie" character, because hes tasting some totally different meat.
I was unaware that stew has this "personality" trait to it.

>a big reveal with only a misplaced jellybean as a clue does not have that strong of an effect.

I mean, the Hangman, from the start of the film to his final moments in it, does not trust anyone. He says, multiple times, that one or two or more of the people in that cabin are going to try and kill him and free Daisy. The only mystery was who exactly, aside from the Mexican who was pretty much given up for free.

The jellybean's only purpose was to show that General Nigger was paying attention.
>>
>>64328254
the hangman did not know for a fact that anyone in the cabin wanted to free or take his catch. he only acted like everyone who wasn't with him, was against him as a matter of course. to me this shows that he is experienced and takes no chances. maybe he lost his catch in the past after trusting strangers.

I really wanted to like this movie. I fucking love westerns.

Based Ennio Morricone. Based Kurt Russel.

Based snow and mystery "whodunnit" lineup.

Reminded me of The Thing (one of my top 3)Ennio did that soundtrack too.

But this flick fell flat. Has the same samey dialogue of every other Tarantino flick. The Zoey Bell scenes for instance reminded me way too much of Death Proof.

Drags on too damn long. Not enough scenery or character backstory. Not enough tension. Just a waste of a film, to be honest.

Tarantino's shitty narration in the middle didn't help at all. Or the stupid ass 'dingus' and projectile blood vomit scenes.

I was hoping just once Tarantino would lock it down and make a serious spaghetti western after the meme-fest that Django was, but nah, he had to go full memes.

This flick was terribly disappointing. 70mm or not, this shit was hot garbage. I'm sad that some great talents were wasted on this shit.

This is probably Jackie Brown levels of disappointing. Easily one of his worst.

2/5 stars on a good day.

Right and if this was some kind of study of him as a person you'd be right. But it's a film. A film about bounty hunters. Now if in a film about bounty hunters the main bounty hunter says, outright, "One of these people will screw us," then one of those people will screw him. Because it's a film, and that's how it works. You fucking retard.
>>
>>64329163
I was with you up until you mentioned Jackie Brown.

Jackie Brown is one of Tarantino's best movies, probably because it's the least Tarantino-y. It's still a loving throwback to genre filmmaking, but it's not overstuffed or hammy like everything else he's done post Pulp Fiction.
>>
Where did the English guy get his hangman ID papers he showed to Kurt Russell?
>>
>>64330028
it appears that they planned the operation for a while. perhaps he had them made just in case.
>>
>>64330028
>Where did the lying villain get some writing on a piece of paper

We'll never know.
>>
So how the fuck did they know there was gonna be a blizzard and that Kurt Russell was gonna stop there ahead of time anyway
>>
>>64330169
maybe hes known to stop by after hunting?
but yeah that blizzard was artistic freedom shown as coincidence
>>
>>64326629
The jellybean was not the only clue. Watch the scene again, Dingus glances up at the shelf where jar used to be. Also how did they clean blood off of wooden floors so well? I'm looking for that cleaning product
>>
>>64329163
>Reminded me of The Thing

Did you know some of the music was unused music Ennio had written for the Thing?
>>
>>64330169
Actually, SLJ points out that they weren't expecting the blizzard

>confirm Quentin Tarantino is a hack cuck that does not deserve any of my money.
well thanks op, for confirming what I already knew was likely true.

great film 8/10, the whole carriage part was too long and they said nigger too often, otherwise good writing.
>>
>>64326629
Saw it just now. One of the better Tarantmemeo movies, definitely better than Django which I finally got around watching and it easily beat it. I saw it in the theater, so it maybe made it seem better than it actually was. However, the audience constantly laughed, and I felt the tension throughout the film

Aww, was babby reddit triggered?
>>
>>64330959
I think the 'crime' and 'mystery' was supposed to play a larger role, and the 'history' was just thrown in because tarantula needs to inject his fetishes into every movie he makes.

>>64331051
i like the carriage parts.
the first 3-4 times they said nigger nearly everyone in the mostly white audience laughed, maybe because it was shocking. but after the intermission it was said so often it lost its power.
this was repeated like 5 times by the same guy:
you mean you're tellin me that the NIGGER in the stable got a letter from lincoln?
they seemed to emphasize saying
"nigger" more than natural speech would allow for.
>>
There isn't a fucking mystery.
>>
>>64326629
I've been trying to decide if/how I should see this. I can save money by pirating, but I dunno if it's the final movie or a workprint. Also, I don't know the difference between 70mm and what I can see in a normal theater.

>>64330854
C-tates mentioned it when they were setting up tho

they said nigger so often and every time im thinking how awkward it must be for the actors, you can almost see it on their faces, they try to pull a pokerface but you see them thinking.
>>
>>64331331

if youre a big fan of the guy go see it
but if you arent its not his best work

Nah, not that good, wasn't until he started screaming at the Old Man in the chair that I really started to buy it.

i saw interstellar in imax 70mm in that theater (amc lowes lincoln square) and it was the greatest movie watching experience i have ever seen.
then i saw it again in regular bullshit 'imax' at some local regal, and it was shit.
the biggest difference in objective quality is the contrast in the dark areas. the blacks are blacker and there is a much smoother transition to lighter but still dark tones with film. digital and its linear 'perfect reproduction every time' can never compare without some tricks which destroy actual detail.

tldr: if its less than 25% more expensive for 70mm and not a bad trip, go for 70mm

so we all agree the best scene is when the Hangman pukes his insides all over Daisy, right?

No, the best was when her brothers head exploded into her face

I liked everything he did up to and including kill bill. Everything since has been garbage.
