Yes, nothing about that is contradictory, not sure what you're quoting.
The prequels are bad movies. They have poor acting, performances, jarring special effects, too much stuff going on sometimes and other times just boring political chatter, horribly written dialogue and so on.
But they do an excellent job at world building, creatively are very original movies, and a few select scenes add a lot to the OT (such as the scene immediately after the high ground meme scene, where Obi Wan is in tears).
They're not worth viewing on their own. To an extent they're not always even worth viewing when watching the OT. But having watched them at least once does add to the OT, and it certainly adds a lot to the overall universe of Star Wars.
TFA is just so derivative it feels copy paste. One of the few good things (along with the music, which is fantastic) about the PT is how original it is.

I dunno, I like the idea that the main conflicts of each trilogy have this throughline.The First Order would be cool if it was what the scrappy ISIS kind of rebellion that you would assume based off of the scenario. That it's functionally just the Empire 2.0 is a big missed opportunity.
