I read the first one of these a long time ago. I remember that it was very much like LotR except compressed down and instead of a ring there was an elf stone or something.
It was probably one of the worst books I've ever read. Barely above Doom the book. I don't know who could bring themselves to make a movie of this shit.

Everyone in the Four Lands era is either white or Ambiguously Brown. Given that it was only America that (barely) survived the apocalypse, it sort of makes sense that after millenia of interbreeding there would be no one very dark.

Yes, it's Elves and Dwarves and Magic and evil demons and wizards and shit. It's just set in post-post apocalypse. It's generic fantasy tripe targeted at young adults, with the older books probably being targeted more at kids. I still read them because I read them with my dad when I was a kid so it sort of has a special meaning to me, but I'm not gonna say Shannara is anything beyond generic cliches.
Like, the characters regularly fall into Fire Emblem-tiers of archetypes each story. Every series has the young sheltered kid, a mentior figure, a lifelong warrior bro, a frisky action girl, a dwarf, an elf or elves, some Chaotic Neutral questionable guy. Always, without fail.

Looks ok, production could be better, those costumes look a bit like cosplay costumes and the CGI looks a bit poor.
Hopefully it's have some nice visuals though, with big set pieces and new Zealand beauty.

say what you like about GoT, they made everything feel like part of a real setting. this is super-awkward and the actors aren't all on the same page about how to play it.
Saw the trailer for it a few months back and it looked kinda cool. Hope it's not a bunch of Twilight shit because I've never heard of the books so I don't know what the fuck to expect.
But with a name like "Shannara chronicles" I'm worried it's gonna be like those abomination Mortal Instrument books which was just giant fucking self insert wish fulfillment written by a 700 pound monster.
