Just watched Holy Motors, not sure what to think. It struggled to keep my attention and I don't feel like it brought anything up that I hadn't thought about before; I don't mean with the literal things that happened, rather what it meant

what did it mean then

My initial thoughts were that the man's appointments throughout the day were supposed be an exaggerated representation of moments of a life. But then you have the conversation between the limos at the end, making it seem like they were the subject all along, so I'm not sure exactly what to think
>>
>>64285117
>those scenes
>moments of a life
>a life
>one life
>those disparate scenes
you a retard son

>I don't feel like it brought anything up that I hadn't thought about before
>I'm not sure exactly what to think
you a double nigger retard son kill yourself and stop watching good films
>>
>>64285093
Alright, what did you get out of Holy Motors? Maybe my interpretation was completely off
>>
>>64285117
I don't know how you can think it's bad when you haven't even connected to the intended theme of the movie: that of movies itself.
>>
>>64285211
Right, well I got the theater at the beginning, with the people clearly bored, then the men talking about how Oscar lost his vigor, and people weren't buying it. Oscar explained he loved the beauty of the act, but wondered what beauty is if no one is there to appreciate it.Then you have multiple mediums of "art" with the motion capture and the photographer.

So this is more a look into the progression of art and how it's received then a commentary on humanity. Ok so in understanding it, I caught the details but started in the wrong spot. This would explain the cars feeling they were in the way out. Movies and their presentation is constantly changing, technology constantly evolving. And then the appointments were individual looks into types of art and how people reacted to it.

Is this closer? Makes sense to me, but I'm not sure if that makes me like it anymore
>>
>>64285630
you a special kind of cunt
>>
>>64285199
>>64285211
Well I just read he director's own explanation. My initial thoughts were correct, although it shows not necessarily the moments of one life, but any moment that does happen in life in general. Also the movie parallel continues the "metaphor". This isn't about art, the "virtual reality" or life style imposed by the cameras is representative of peoples' needs to observe an control others. So don't dismiss my shitty interpretation just because it differs from yours. I'm glad you got something out of it, but I'm not retarded because of the way I understood it. I'll watch it again eventually like I do with most movies skeptical of and perhaps I'll like it more with a better understanding. But I believe a movie shouldn't require someone else to explain it to you. I think it's fine if it requires multiple viewings, requiring you to recycle your own thoughts on it and decipher the meaning. But with Holy Motors, my initial thoughts were not entirely incorrect and they frankly didn't make much of an impact
>>
>>64286011
you are a retard for not even picking up on the basics of what it's doing. from there it would be fine to feel differently about it but holy shit you didn't grasp what was happening in the movie at any level.
>>
>>64286182
How not? I picked up the movie themes as well as the commentary on life. What did I miss exactly? I've provided my thoughts and my process, others have told me I was wrong, but not why. I get not wanting to sponged me the meaning, that's why I made clear that I've developed my own thoughts and am not fishing for answers. So how about explaining where I'm wrong instead of just calling me retarded.

fwiw Carax is averse to explaining his own motives and generally gives generic answers. He gave interviews about HM as if he didn't know what he was doing, or that everything was unintentional, when there are very clear references throughout that mainly connect to his older work.
