What the fuck are they thinking?
>>64266436
Oh my god poor Sofia Boutella
Simon Pegg wrote the movie and actually said the actual movie is closer to classic ToS Trek and the trailer was a trainwreck brainfart from Paramounts marketing department.
I don't know if that is true or not, it could be damage control, but I respect Pegg.
>>64266436
WHY DID THOSE SHIT LORDS MAKE A WOMAN OF COLOUR WHITE
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>64266436
They wanted to ride on that GotG popularity.
Now they're riding on Star Wars popularity.
>>64266513
You know what other Star Wars movie was closer to its TV series? Star Trek: Insurrection. That movie sucked balls, btw.
>>64266436
Is Idris Elba the Jem'Hadar
>>64266554
Actually hes a warrior of Narn who got lost from the Babylon 5 set.
I can't think of any way this could be worse than the second shit reboot.
>>64266513
It doesn't matter at this point, the trailer already convinced me 100 per cent to don't give a single dime to this movie.
>>64266436
they're doubling down on the normie pandering.
>TFW Roberto Orci is writing the new Trek series.
>>64266649
Is that Robert Davi??
>>64266695
Is this confirmed in any capacity? All I've seen is that Kurtzman is executive producer. Which is just as bad.
>>64266741
it's spock you mongoloid.
>>64266548
>You know what other Star Wars movie was closer to its TV series?
Because it had the right feeling doesnt mean it's close to the serie. It had bad writting, people out of character, and was still action shit that didnt make sense.
>Time's up
Fucking really?
Star Trek movies should be something like Interstellar in tone. Not retarded action flicks.
>>64266436
>What the fuck are they thinking?
they probably feel they have no choice.
the "Khan!" bullshit alienated the hardcore fans the most, so they have nowhere else to go.
>>64266852
Tell me he doesn't look like Robert Davi in the original still, I dare you.
>>64266513
Pegg is a fucking hack and hypocrite.
For all the shit he gives the PT and the fans of it, he refuses to accept that JJ raped and ruined Star trek.
Does anyone else not want to see this movie not because of the trailer, director or franchise, but because JJ basically used Star Trek as a test run for how he was going to ruin Star Wars?
I mean I feel like I should never go near anything he's touched ever again, just on principle.
>>64266513
>It's not Khan I swear, go see the movie! :^)
nolan sucks but he realy should reboot star trek
>>64266513
>I respect Pegg
Does this look like the face of a man that is confident in his script?
>>64266513
They made him rewrite the script he was originally confident in and then they made this trailer. Be cautious.
Never got the hate for the new Star Trek.
>but anon, they're action films!
So? Star Trek movies have been dumb action films since Generations. The difference is, Generations to Nemesis sucked and weren't competent action films at all. They tried to get old Patrick Stewart to be an action star. Now, I like Patrick Stewart, but he's not Rambo.
At least with the new Star Trek films, they're doing competent action with a young cast. Good for them.
>>64266906
he doesn't look like Robert Davi in the original stilli can see where you'd think that though, buddy
>The Martian basically bigger hit than Star Trek
>LETS GO EVEN MORE STUPID.
Isn't Ex Machina and The Martian evidence people want smart sci-fi?
>>64267087
The Star Trek movies in general are pretty meh (though technically better record than Star Wars, where Star Wars has 2 good movies, Star Trek has 5)
>>64267087
>Star Trek movies have been dumb action films since Generations.
And everybody hated that. It doesnt matter how well it's sold to the audience. How hard was it to understand?
>>64267101
>the martian
>DUDE IMMA HAVE TO REDDIT THE SHIT OUT OF THIS XD
>smart sci-fi
>>64267179
/lit/ here, the book's even worse
There have been enough recent films that were more treklike than Star Trek and Paramount still wants to imitate the latest blockbuster fad. Hey, Paramount, if you want to make Trek something it's not, why aim for a low hanging fruit like GotG and not for Jurassic World, Titanic or Avatar?
I for one am interested to find out why there is a functioning dirt bike on an alien planet.
>>64267179
I love how movies only get credit for being smart from /tv/ if they very specifically telegraph how highbrow they are.
it also explains why you idiots liked Interstellar which is basically as dumb as they come.
Maybe they are trying to reverse the odd star trek films suck rule.
I mean look at the history of it, the even numbed films are normally much better than the odd ones.
So there might be hope for sabotage-trek
>>64266436
If they renamed the film Star Wars, it would break all the records.
>>64267087
09 is really a great reboot, Into Darkness was trash though. A lot of action but a shitty story. The one emotional moment is taken away a minute later with magic blood. Disgusting movie, only a few good scenes when they have a legit cast and crew.
Seeing as this is the only Trek thread at the moment, what are you guys watching?
I'm watching Plato's Stepchildren and I'm liking it a good deal. It's a nice portrayal of what can go wrong when you fetishize ancient philosophies and dabble in eugenics. As well as the staple "superior intellect does not make you a superior being". Also, surprisingly ethical use of a midget actor for 1968.
>>64267243
I don't know why they don't aim to grab the thunder of there being no big "serious" sci-fi franchise at the moment like Aliens, Blade Runner, The Matrix etc
Star Trek could be an actual respectable franchise with decent writers and directors behind it, hell get Nolan or Ridley Scott to do a Star Trek movie.
Mad Max shows that modern blockbuster movies don't have to be stupid and it's stupid to make Star Trek a dumb action franchise now Star Wars has been rebooted.
>>64267423
http://www.startrekcontinues.com/episodes.html
Continues.
Legit the best Star Trek thing made since DS9.
>>64267332
TMP is the best original Star Trek movie, all TNG movie suck equally, and Into Darkness is even worse than 2009
>>64266436
Hopefully she gets the hard dicking in this movie that she never got in Kingsman
>>64267430
>Ridley Scott
>respectable
I agree with your sentiment though. Sooner or later, the general audience will get sick of capeshit or at least want a taste of something different. Paramount going with this trend only serves to make this movie even more forgettable.
>>64267430
it's not really possible because the reboots are now established as fun space adventure movies. there would really be nothing wrong with that if they'd applied creativity to them - they could even do serious sci fi ideas within that framework like Star Trek 4 did.
they aren't doing that because they don't know how and are scared of even trying. it's the same reason there will never be another good Star Wars film.
>>64267596
Perfect Elektra.
>>64266436
On the plus side star trek is getting another tv series so hopelessly it will ignore the whole reboot bullshit.
Also what were they thinking with that hideous caterwauling in the trailer?
>>64267475
This looks like trash. Is there any reason to watch it when over 500 hours of real Trek exists?
>>64267423
oh yeah, also forgot this. no biggie.
>>64267499
Hey anon you misspelled Wrath of Khan there.
>Sabotage in the background
>Not Intergalactic Planetary
1/10 trailer
>>64268198
Star Trek isn't intergalactic though.
