Just recently watched these again, as I watch them every christmas holiday
There's a few scenes that I'll just never not want to see again
Also the only film I've ever cried while watching, although after a few times that sadness at the grey havens scene does lose some of it's effect
There are certainly much more well made films out there, much more artful and interesting uses of the medium, but there's something about this trilogy that really resonates with me

I'm not sure, possibly his wife, but they're both well into their 90s. Pretty sure he has children and grandchildren though, and selling movie rights is a very easy way to have a continued income. Main reason Tolkien himself sold them before he passed away was to make sure his family was taken care of after he passed.
