I don't know why, but since I was a kid I was always under the impression that lightsabers were turned on by force users by simply thinking about it, not by a physical button. I was too little when I first watched empire and forgot that han uses luke's saber to cut open that animal.
Still, it was nice for me to think that ordinary plebs couldn't use them and that you had to actually be in tune with the force and imagine the lightsaber turning on for it to function. This concept was further reinforced for me when I saw dudes turning them off mid-fight for no apparent reason (like actually taking the time to push a button) other than wishing the blade away for a second

Couldn't tell you. Will say the general design and quality of parts for the Black Series are pretty damn gorgeous. That said, I doubt the luminosity would match UltraSabers or Saberforge's just due to the fact that Force FX lights up with sequenced lights contained within the length of the blade which forces them to bulk up the blades thickness a bit, which consequently causes the saber to lose brightness.
With blades from Ultrasabers/SaberForge, you can change out between dueling and display blades, which allow for stronger durability or greater brightness, respectively, depending on what you're looking for. The external parties also use one high-powered light contained at the end of the hilt, which shines on through the length of the blade and really does a good job at catching that almost tapered look you get as you look up from the base of the blade.
That said, I have yet to see a Black Series in person, so I can't really say much as to how much better they show in comparison. I'm just speculating for the most part and drawing from what I know from past FX models.
