This was easily the hardest thing to watch, no amount of gore, violence, or tension even comes close to this series. After getting into the first few episodes i just had to keep watching, though.

Its hard to know nothing will ever come of it, Steven will die in prison and Brendon will most likely be released a few decades from now after sitting in prison for a large majority of his life.

You seem unfamiliar with the extent to which institutional solidarity can corrupt affairs organically, with no 'conspiracy' as such required. Cops certainly can and do plant evidence to inculpate suspects they believe to be guilty. Cops certainly lie to support the statements and actions of other cops, even if they are not 'in on' whatever bad action may underlie those statements and actions.

None of which is to suggest that planted evidence actually means Avery is innocent.

>>
>>64239940
I laughed when I first saw because I thought thats how a cartoon would depict a typical news reporter
>>
Also remember during Steven's trial, Kratz has to say Steven killed Teresa in the garage, to account for the lack of blood & other trace evidence in the bed room where, according to dum-dum boy, the murder actually took place. Then, Steven is convicted of first degree murder, but NOT mutilation of a corpse.

Then, during dumb kid's trial, they convict him based on the story he told about seeing Teresa tied up and killed in the bedroom. Did anyone else notice this? Maybe I misunderstood.
>>
>>64239940

It's just a little too early in the process. A few years down the line he'll look like a smooth silver fox
>>
>>64240075

Positive results would strongly support the case that the blood was planted. Negative results are inconclusive.
>>
>>64240085
Also Steven was found not guilty of mutilating a body despite all of his supposed actions while Brendon was. In the closing of Steven's case Kratz also said something about 1 man responsible for the murder and that being Steven which completely contradicts Brendon's upcoming trial.

All in all most of the shit doesnt make sense and certainly didnt provide conclusive evidence.
>>
What would have happened if Steven was found innocent and Brenden guilty?
>>
>>64240260
That would have been completely impossible, the other way around maybe. All of the evidence pointed to Steven and the only incriminating evidence against Brendon was his own confession which we all saw.
>>
>>64240308

They were tried separately, of course it's possible. I admit it's unlikely, though.
>>
>>64240085
>>64240192
both trials made absolutely no sense

how do americans feel about the whole 'jury of your peers' thing? why should they decide the fate of a person's life? why not several judges who have spent their entire lives studying criminology and crime?

i understand the jury just says guilty/not guilty, but they still pretty much bind the judge to a sentencing
>>
>>64240366
Unlikely as in 99.9% unlikely. The most likely outcome was the one that occurred and the other realistic outcome was Steven being found guilty and Brendon found innocent. The last few episodes make it seem like a retrial for Brendon is possible with the whole Chekinski thing but it never happened.
>>
>>64240379
The person on trial has the option of having the judge decide. Would be stupid though.
They way they do it is pretty good though. Everyone has to agree that he is guilty, I like those odds.
>>
>>64240379
It makes a little sense because the jury is supposed to go into it with a presumption of innocence. However the media in today's society and even back then it will be nearly impossible to do that in cases that large.
>>
>>64240491
But a jury is so fallible. This invites such incredible theatrics into the American courthouses. You have to convince a jury with muh emotions instead of facts and rational thinking.
>>
>>64240491
>The person on trial has the option of having the judge decide. Would be stupid though.

I like Lenny Bruce's position: Better to have a judge if you're innocent; judges are used to sifting through mounds of evidence and correctly applying legal principles such as reasonable doubt etc. Better to have a jury if you're guilty; judges have heard every bullshit story you can come up with a hundred times and more - juries are apt to be more gullible.

I do think the jury system is a joke and have done for many years. They abolished it in India about fifty years ago. I even take some issue with the adversarial representative system as it stands, though I understand its rationale. I'd favour some kind of three-judge panel, possibly with one judge tasked with advocating one side and another the other, to preserve some of what the adversarial system is intended to protect.

>>
>>64240379
In theory it's probably the most fair system, but in reality it's worthless. Nobody presumes innocence, people are more likely to be swayed by emotion than facts, and the fact that it has to be unanimous means people change sides just to be able to be done with the whole thing.

I've personally never registered to vote just so I'll never be on the registry for jury duty. I do not want someone's life in my hands, because I think it's too big of a responsibility. Others don't want to be there and don't give a shit, or want to be a "hero" and convict someone regardless, and that's terrifying
>>
>>64240075
see, youre a retard juror who doesnt understand what proofs what.
The "abscence" of ETDA proofs nothing but that. They didnt find EDTA on that exact sample. Its NOT proof the blood wasnt planted, its not even proof that it wasnt planted from the nailed vial thing because appearantly the test is unreliable anyway AND the person who tested fucked up too.
>>

It's like claiming to test for life in Lake Michigan, but only going a meter deep, and claiming none exists. Also:

It was good. Not as good as Paradise Lost or The Thin Blue Line tbqh tho
>>
>>64238460

Reminds me a bit of Paradise Lost.

Unlike The Thin Blue Line where they clearly set up an innocent man for a specific reason, Paradise Lost and this never really demonstrated innocence, just incompetence and corruption on behalf of the police and prosecutors that make the cases/convictions bascically void.

Just Bad Work period.

The opposite of this is the doco on The Central Park Five, where the filmmakers bend over backwards to avoid including blatantly incriminating evidence.

The most troubling/disturbing one for me was Capturing The Friedmans. From the guy who made The Jinx.
>>
>>64239168

I didn't like how the documentary did this. Same problem with the Paradise Lost sequels (which went out of their way to hilariously paint an innocent man as the killer) and the Peter Jackson doco on the subject.
>>
>>64239456

This is completely normal for most cases.

I watched a fadcinating TV special on a teenage boy who the police got to confess to murdering his little sister (the real killer was found later). The technique used was exactly the same and is standard operating procedure for homicide investigations (nearly all of which are closed with confessions/snitching).

"They" (as in the Uncle - Avery) probably did kill her. The police just faked the evidence and the crime to get a conviction. The boy is collateral damage. Sort of like the opposite of The Thin Blue Line, where they know the boy was the killer, but they manipulated the case so they could get the legal adult the death penalty for real "justice"
>>
I just watched the episode that ended with the vile of blood that had a pinhole the size of a needle in the top.

They really fucking framed him lads, didn't they?
>>
>>64249896

Are you on drugs anon?
>>
desu Brendon deserved it. he got conned into saying he raped and murdered that woman by a bunch of small town cops after just a few hours.

i don't care how stupid he is. he helped send a guy that spent half his life in prison for a crime he didn't commit back to prison for the rest of it.
>>
>>64250073

A guy who was a mentally retarded sex criminal with a propensity for violence did something retarded?

Yeah. Probably.

I find it highly unlikely the police murdered her and managed to burn the body to his trailer to burn it along with the car. That's tin foil territory for me.

Not that it couldn't happen, just that it's more of a stretch than the retard shooting her over something and the police fixing the scene and fabricating a case to confirm him.

The latter is common with cops. The former less so.
>>
Len literally did nothing wrong. The retard only had to listen to him and make a plea deal and he would have been out of jail by now. But no, he thought he could beat the system and get away with raping and having a hand in the murder of Theresa so now he is spending his life behind bars.

>The main concerns about the process are that it is run by the prosecutor, no judge is involved, jurors are not screened for bias or suitability, the defendant is not present or represented, the prosecutors and grand jurors are prohibited from revealing what occurred, and transcripts of the proceedings are not made available.

>The grand jury has been called the “lapdog”, “rubberstamp” and “total captive” of the prosecutor. A favourite phrase around US criminal courts is that a competent prosecutor can get a grand jury to “indict a ham sandwich”.

Except all evidence we have proves the contrary, he's not a retard he BEAT the courts once using the long con, he;s obviously not mentally ill and for you to pull out the "he's a criminal, he did it card" was the exact thinking that got him convicted in the first place.

Did you even fucking watch it? The investigators were the once planting the questions and kept trying to get him to admit to the crime and he didn't know what the fuck was going on so he was just guessing.
>>
>>64250362

> isn't beyond reasonable doubt is it?

Of course not. I said it above, the frustrating thing about these cases is that the idiots handling them muddy their own waters and negate any result.

Did he do it? Probably? Did they through laziness and stupidity ruin the case and imvalidate the verdict? Certainly.

I recommend reading a good book on the Gacy case, or even watching To Catch A Killer. Small town and local retards pulling shit like this against someone wealthy and intelligent was why he was out free for so long. It wasn't until some actually non lazy and retarded cops came along and had the patience to do the case properly that they were finally able to bust them.

Here in cases like this, it's not uncommon for the cops to not tip their hand and put the suspects under months and even years of surveillance. They don't want to fuck their own cases running in planting evidence and fabricating confessions by "verballing" after years and years of cases being overturned by this behavior.

Do I think he did it? Yeah.

Would I find him guilty based on this investigation? No way.
