It's funny how redditors make accuse Avatar of being derivative and belittle it for that reason. Then they love Star Wars when A New Hope is a direct rip of The Hidden Fortress and TFA is a rip of A New Hope.

It won't, it's already sure - it has similar curve to JW, though ~20% bigger (some say it's due to people seeing it 3-4 times. I must admit I saw it 2 times already with different group of friends). I'll have a hard time beating Titanic.
The question is - can Disney keep the hype up since they're literally releasing new movie in 1 year, and new episode in 1,5 year. If they can - episode IX might just have a shot at Avatar (though it's unlikely), but they probably can't - by the time IX is out most fans will be fed up enough with Star Wars thanks to faster production and spin offs. I'm not saying less people will see it. But definitely there will be much less fans who'll watch it 3-4 times. Also if you look at previous trilogies - 1st movie always has the best box office.
