It is undisputed that he fell to the dark side and that his motivations for heading the Separatists movement was insincere. He knew there was no way the Separatists could win and that it was a part of a plot to get Sheeve into power. Yeah, he may have planned to overthrow him eventually, but he basically attempted to use countless deaths to suit his own ends. Thats why he is bad.

If Dooku told Kenobi, there's nothing to guarantee that Kenobi would trust him. The fact that Kenobi didn't join Dooku showed that Kenobi didn't trust Dooku.
Dooku actually took a really big risk trusting Kenobi, since for all he knew, Kenobi was also in on Palpatine's plan. Dooku only trust Kenobi because Jinn was Dooku's student, and Kenobi was Jinn's student.
Jinn probably would have helped Dooku defeat Palpatine.

Most of the film is about following Not Boba Fett, and Palpatine's plot to create a Clone Army, neither of which Dooku was in on.
Dooku only appears at the end, when the "good guys" invade his base. Even then, he offers the "good guys" a chance to join him in defeating Palpatine (the real bad guy) before the Separatists decide to do the arena thing.
Then he gets attacked again. And again.
The guy isn't the main antagonist of Episode II.
