This. First-season was god-tier, a friend had it on recently and I forgot how great it was. It was based on the first book in the series, and was put together so well, great acting, great story.
The writers had absolutely no fucking clue where to go after that, so they added tits and killed the 2nd best character. Then they had to resort to stunt casting to get anyone to keep watching after that.
Total garbage.
pulled their best card in season 2, season 3 wasn't the best, season 4 was good, except the writing staff changed after it. then we get seasons 5, 6, 7, and 8 full of garbage

False. Capturing Doakes made it seem suspenseful and dramatic, but they wrote themselves into a corner and the show literally could not continue unless they killed him, which makes it lazy fucking writing.

I went back to rewatch and had the opposite experience, I found it impossible to suspend my disbelief and I thought the acting was really cheesy. I really enjoyed tbe series back in the day so I was really disappointed.

Too many women in Dexter's life. In season 1, it was perfect with just his gf (two no kinky gf). After that it was just a clusterfuck of women who "understand" Dexter.
Dexter, being a psychopath, shouldn't have given a flying fuck about these women but MUH HOLLYWOOD LOVE and MUH LOVE CAN CURE ANYTHING

Think about it. If they had kept him alive it would have made the show way more exciting. Maybe they could have even put their differences aside and help each other out. I mean in the book Deb was supposed to find out sooner and she still helped him.
the ending to season 1 was so great if it had ended just there it would have been perfect.
