Why did Timithy Dalton only star in 2 James Bond movies?
I've seen Living daylights some time ago and thought it was the perfect bond movie, today I just got arround to watch Licence to kill and it was just that. Easily top 2 of my James Bond movies list. I grew up with Brosnan and really loved Casino Royale (let's face it the rest of Craig's films wasn't quite as good) but Timothy just had 2 of best James bond movies in my opinion. Perfect balance of grittiness and jokes, best bond girls and pure awesomeness.
After Spectre that was just meh honestly, Licence to kill was just so refreshing and awesome.
Oh, by the way it's James bond/Timithy/Licence to kill thread. What's /tv's opinion?let's not talk star wars for few minutes for a change

The story:
After LTK, a French company got into a lawsuit with eon over Tv rights that lasted for years. When the dust was settled, they were writing goldeneye with Dalton in mind (which explains why it deals with themes of betrayal, friendship, and personal issues), but Dalton turned it down because he wanted to move on with his career

Yeah, he was good if a tad stiff. Just recently watched em both and enjoyed em. Young Benicio in License. Pretty much Bond vs. Narcos.
After those I watched the first few Connerys. From Russia With Love is easily the best, but i'd put License in Top Tier probably. Beautiful babes, some humor, great action/stunts, memorable set pieces.

>Dalton turned it down because he wanted to move on with his career
probably the biggest mistake of his career
>>64215111
shit that's sad, too bad he turned it down
Goldeneye was Brosnan's best with top tier song anyways
but I might be sentimental since it was also the first bond I've seen

I thing the older bonds are acquired taste, connery was really god-like as bond though

He was a theater actor first, and a movie actor second. Even while he was doing bond theater was his main thing. He seems to not care much for the spotlight even now

>that moment when James Bond opens a portal to hell by accident and satans hand comes out
>>64215419
Agreed, Dr. No, From Russia, and Gold Finger were great. I skipped Thunderball and was a bit underwhelmed with You Only Live Twice though.

If YOLT underwhelms you, wait till secret service, it's genuinely one of the best bond movies of all time.
Then get ready for the hell that is diamonds are forever

Yeah, so i've heard, looking forward to it. I'm kinda trying to do the greatest hits/best reviewed then maybe come back for what I missed, so not sure if i'll do Diamonds. What's the best Moore, The Spy Who Loved Me?

For your eyes only. Spy is great, but FYEO has imo his best bond performance and a GOAT score by Bill conti

Ah thanks
Best Bond

through.

apart from the legal ramblings (somewhat of a smokescreen) he was hugely unpopular with audiences.
>>64218041
That was thanks to the goofy bond trend that happened win Brosnan. FYEO was basically a precursor to Dalton but they backtracked huge after. It's too bad, with Brosnan they brought back goofy and look where that got the franchise

morelike dalton was a crap james bond.
its the campyness and fun that makes bond different then any other spy thriller and audiences back them voted with their money.
Dalton always looked like he was one second away from going postal. That scene (I forget which movie it was) where he smacks the shit out of his female companion, I thought he was going to beat the shit out of her.
Overall, both Dalton movies were fantastic, with Licence to Kill easily making Top 10. I didn't understand at all how people threw a fit about them being "too dark" and "too violent." Even the most graphic scene (the dude getting eaten by a shark) was pretty tame.
