Sev from Republic Commando. He disappeared at the end of the game, so it wouldn't be hard to justify him popping up somewhere else. It wouldn't even have to be explicitly stated at any point: all you need a badass old dude with a sniper rifle and mild hints of a military past during the clone wars.
He could easily be working with either the First Order or the Republic, whichever makes most sense from a story perspective.

The arc was shit, but the concept of sheev returning is interesting, and serves as a parallel to
Plagueis, who could save those he loved but not himself, shile sheeev is able to save himself, but not the things he cares about, namely the original empire. Snoke being sheev coild be quite good if executed properly, and serve to add an interesting villian to the new triology, assuming they do something to get rid of Serkis CGI snoke and bring back McDiarmid. Because right now the only cool "bad guy", if one really belives anti-imperial lies, is TR-8R.

No. What's interesting about Dark Empire is Thrawn. The whole Emperor clone thing is dumb. As is Luke turning to the dark side after he has already pretty thoroughly rejected it in ROTJ.
Thrawn is an interesting character. He's a great and refreshing antagonist because while a dangerous and determined opponent... he's not necessarily an evil person.

Thrawn was certainly the best part, and Luke joining the dark side was really really retarded, but like I said, the concept of Sheev coming back could be good, but in the case of dark empire, the execution was poor, and thus the concept didn't work, not because it was an inherelty bad idea, but because of said poor execution.
Kyle Katarn is just Han Solo as a bounty hunter who ends up being a mary sue fuck who is somehow a master of bith dark and light in a matter of years.
Takes years to be a full blown jedi, let alone a darkside user.

Even if they weren't like full fledged Jedi's. They could have Marek be Kota's padawan and completely change his back story a bit.
