People who make this comparison don't know anything about what happened during the making of The Hobbit trilogy. George had years to write and prepare the Star Wars prequels, Peter had years to write and prepare The Lord of the Rings Trilogy but he was only given a few months to write and prepare The Hobbit trilogy. As a result, they weren't able to make as many sets or props and a ton of scenes were shot without any planning. Peter isn't blameless, he definitely deserves some shit but most of the blame falls on the production companies for rushing everything.

all this shit was a direct result of it being rushed
PJ was basically there because WB and MGM had poured so much bullshit into organizing the rights to the thing that it absolutely had to happen, and without that hack GdT they needed someone who knew the franchise well enough that something, anything could be made by the seat of their pants
PJ not only made three films out of it but he made two- TWO- studios a shitzillion dollars in the process. Whatever he makes next is probably going to be a blank-check big fucking thank you from the studios to PJ and will probably make the hobbit worth it

Thats hardly worthy of praise anymore. Every single big name movie that has come out recently made a billion dollars. ROTK was the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time when it came out, the hobbit movies were sub 20.

The Hobbit movies are disappointing compared to LOTR, but there is lots of great stuff in it. PJ knows how to make great scenes, he just needs an good editor to make a good movie out of those scenes.
