How is this not the greatest show of our generation?

The characters, set pieces, literary/cultural references. Some episodes are straight up stand alone masterpieces aka Signal 30, The Suitcase, etc..

At the same time Weiner has balls and is willing to take risks with episodes like The Crash where everyone is strung out on meth. Ridiculous.

How can anyone even pretend that pleb-tier Breaking Bad is on the same level? I forced myself to watch that godawful piece of shit. No character development other than WALTER WHITE IS HEISENBERG LEL HES SO EFIL. Skyler is a dumb cunt and has no redeeming qualities the entire series, his sons just a dumb cripple who can't fucking act. The entire show caters to the LCD of human intelligence by being entirely plot driven.

I honestly use whether people prefer Breaking Bad as a barometer for autism.
>>
Breaking Bad was mediocre and so was this show. It's dull and the characters are boring, people just over-analyze it and see all kinds of subtle things that just aren't there. People do the same shit with a lot of shows I guess but never has there been more pretentious fanboys than those of mad men. They are like children who just found "adult television" and want to let everyone know how mature and grown up they are because they watch a mediocre and rather boring tv-show.

>WALTER WHITE IS HEISENBERG LEL HES SO EFIL

Mad men could be greentexted in a similar manner: >DON DRAPER IS SO LE ALPHA LOL EPIC 50'S HAHA THEY DRINK AND SMOKE AND SMOKE LOOOL HE THREW THE GARBAGE TO NATURE AHAHA LOL BLACKS AND GAYS ARENT TREATED WELL LOL DID I ALREADY MAKE SURE TO TELL YOU WE ARE IN THE 50S NOW

I bet you watch anime.
>>
what exactly is a 'set piece'?
>>
>>64189944

did you watch past the first season? This characterization is so childish and shallow you're either a retard or didn't watch past the first season.

I'll admit the first season had a little bit too many 'WE 50S NOW BOY' but the way the show progresses through the era from S1 to ending is handled very well.

The whole character of Don Draper is an illusion. The reason he acts like that is because, well, its all an act. He's Dick Whitman, he stole Don Draper's name and he's insecure and paranoid about people finding out who he really is the entire show. I suggest you rewatch the Season Finale when he calls Peggy. 'I scandalized my daughter, stole a mans name and made mothing from it... [sic]'

Did we watch the same show?
>>
>>64189480
I hope you're aware nobody who didn't watch it knows what the fuck are you talking about and which show is it.

>>

also for me the most compelling character is Pte Campbell. Everyone wants to be a Don draper but they are more likely a Pete Campbell, a small man who desperately wants to be seen as Don Draper but will never be seen as one.

all this american middle class who loves MM only because it is the first time that they see tailored suits....

Don Draper is a stupid baby who has never reflected upon his life.

this is why he has some difficulties to write whatever stuff Roger ordered him to write. This is why he asks Peggy about her dreams, which are pitiful to whomever has stepped back a little from any social alienation to think a few minutes on their existences.

but no, Don is the cliché of the 40 something who never took 5 minutes to do this basic task.

And if he did, there would be no tv show dragged over 8 fucking years over hot air...

Mad men is a show about some stupid adolescent in a body of a 40 yo man (supposedly) handsome (to insert the cliché of vapid sex) who prefers to hang on to a retarded past due to a lack of reflection. Literally, the writers have cherry pick a phony situation to avoid any thinking and creativity.

I agree it is superior but it tried something else than MM and only had 6 (?) episode.
>>
>>64190492
What it tried and accomplished to do it did it with such quality and in such good pacing that it is by far the better performer of the 2 TV-shows.
>>
>>64190352

This is not true.

A big part of his character is his desire to "put the past behind him" "forget it ever happened and move forward. It will shock you how much this never happened"

There is a difference between a lack of self reflection and distancing yourself form your past as the deserting name stealing son of a whore by "forgetting" about it (note: he does not forget about it and it haunts him every day)

This mindset is brought to a poignant conclusion when he attempts to sell it to his "niece" when she abandons her child in the series finale. She promptly replies "Oh dick, I don't think you're right about that"

Cue the final twenty minutes of fridge man's speech and his meditation when he finally comes to terms with his past and present after a LIFETIME of self reflection.
>>
>>64190352
The show helped many people realize that THEY are stupid adolescents in the body of a 40 year old who prefer to hang on to their past due to lack of reflection.

I don't see why it would mean jack shit to a 16yo.

I don't understand why people think that everything they watch should apply to them.

Dear basedgod this show was repetitive trash after Don and Joan joined as partners.
LITERALLY NOTHING HAPPENED.
And Megan didn't give a shit about Dons adultery.
LITERALLY POINTLESS.
What was Megan even on the show for?
At least Betty had some balls.
Peggy used to be interesting but then just displayed one emotion for like 3 entire seasons.
I'm not old enough to remember (or even care) about that Coke ad everyone talks about so the Finale was also boring as shit to me (I'm 26).
The ONLY thing that kept me interested was the cheating and sex and hot women.
Once those became dull, that was it for me.
I still canr believe I watched every single damn boring as fuck episode though.
What a fucking waste of my time that I couldve spent 'bating.

This. Mad Men is a pleb show masquerading as a patrician show. It's the kind of show plebeians watch to try and convince themselves and others they're patricians. FNL, on the other hand, is as patrician as TV gets. IMDb fags hated it when it came out, and it was too subtle and "le slow" for the general plebeian audience. And notice how it's hardly ever talked about on /tv/. Much too patrician for these redditors.

Kind of, he got what don always wanted by having (the promise of) a happy family life in Kansas with Trudy, but the difference is he was able to bring his last with him rather than having to create a new identity to be happy. He learned from his mistakes and matured from it by accepting that adultery/alpha male lifestyle isn't ultimately fulfilling.

I don't understand Mad Men fans. I'm a fan but the show is deeply flawed on so many levels. I've never seen any intelligent argument for why it is the best. Anytime I present my issues with the show people just ignore the post and the thread dies. Also, it's impossible to have a serious discussion of the best show on television here. In some senses Game of Thrones does things better than any show on television but shake my head to be honest family normies love it so it's absolute shit. Not saying GoT is the best, I don't know what is the best. I just know Mad Men is not the high art everyone makes it out to be. The characterization is fucking terrible (except for Pete as someone else already mentioned). Thematically it is incoherent. Hackneyed drug episodes. Repetitive story arcs. Terrible corny wonder years tier period fiction. The list goes on.
