I get the same impression, but having never done it I can't say for sure. It obviously produces an incredibly powerful subjective experience, but the interpretation of that experience afterwards is where the problems lie.
These things often manifest in a kind of "I can't explain it but I know the truth", which to me speaks volumes. This exactly. I've tried it once, and it hits you immediately like a motherfucker. I had no time to get my bearings, just had to lay down and let the ride take me. Like a lot of people claim, I lost my sense of time for a period during the trip and everything became very abstract. Every single instrument in the song I was listening to was like a different voice speaking to me in a way I could understand at the time, as if each time I heard the various sounds there was a different distinct message coming to me. After I got my bearing back this understanding went away and I realised I had only been there 10 minutes. That's honestly the best I can describe it.
I didn't have a breakthrough but I can see the potential for some real inner searching through such a drug.
