I like BEE and admire his dedication to demonstrating how pop cinema is a valid artform but fuck those picks are mostly dreadful. Inside Out is the 2nd best movie of the year? And Trainwreck?! Really?!
>>
Wild Tales is good and worth a watch, not even memeing

However if you like memes here's the plane scene from it. The other 5 shorts share the same theme yet quite unique.

I've not seen any of those, and was only planning to see Maps to the Stars.

at least Knock Knock was funny
>>
>>64189344
Cosmopolis was better but I enjoyed it. I don't think it was quite as scathing as BEE thinks it is.
>>
>>64189321
I haven't seen Trainwreck or Inside Out but the others that I have seen (Maps to the Stars, Knock Knock, A Hard Day) are fine picks. Especially Knock Knock.

Maps to the Stars and Knock Knock are fine time wasters but movies of the year they are not. They are rainy day RedBox rentals at best.
>>
>>64189226

No. Just no.

>>64189226

>>
>>64189226

Is he so retarded that he took a pic of the screen?
>>
>>64189498
BEE is a notorious twitter cunt but that's just part of his "ultra modern post-empire" persona. I think he has a lot of interesting things to say but sometimes he thinks he's God's gift to criticism which makes him a pain.

Also, he's written four or five great books.
>>
>>64189515
He's old.
>>
>>64189226
Is Amy Schumer popular among the faggots of burgerstan?
>>
>>64189549
Oh yeah he's written some good stuff but he's a giant cunt and in such a silly way it makes it hard to take him seriously.
>>
>>64189515
>>64189588
It's post-empire
>>
>>64189704
It's actually Empire.
>>
>people claiming knock knock isn't movie of the year

fucking dorks
>>
>>64189590
Her bubble has burst and I think she's on her way down. Articles are coming out on how much of a bitch she is. The shooting at her movie definitely hurt her upward momentum.
>>
>>64189549

>four or five great books
>>
No one cares anymore, Bret.

Your internet eclecticisms were neat a few years ago when you couldn't find this same inane trash on every teenagers twitter.

>>

Less Than Zero
American Psycho
Lunar Park
The Rules of Attraction
Glamorama
>>
>>64189588
>>64189844

He's 51.

>>64189704
>>64189718

What is empire/post-empire? Is this something he coined an no one else has adopted?

>>64189821

Ah ok then that explains it.

>>64189846

I've read all of those and only thought American Psycho was any good. The description of the brain making a farting sound...but that other shit, especially Less Than Zero...only the art crowd cares about shit like that.
>>
>>64190545
Rules of Attraction is fantastic mate. American Psycho had the most going on, sure, but Less Than Zero is a great debut even if it was literally written by an edgy teenager
>>
WHERE THE FUCK IS TFA WHY IS IT NOT #1!?!?!?!?!?
>>
>>64190584

"Edgy teenager" is hardly a proper descriptor for "priveleged college student", but maybe I should read it again since I read it right after Catcher In The Rye almost half my life ago.
>>

American Psycho was one of the best books I've ever read. I read it cover to cover and then read it again over two weeks. The movie does it justice for sure, but the book is worth looking at separately.
>>
>>64189334
If this clip is supposed to make me want to watch it, it didn't. Unless it's a comedy and supposed to be totally ridiculous.
>>

American Psycho and Lunar Park are great books, for sure. The rest of his stuff you need to be into his style.

That was shit, though.
>>
>>64189226
At first glance I was fine with it, but now
>Knock Knock
>Trainwreck
>Using informal words in alphabetizing. What is this third grade?
>Only numbering top three
>Listing foreign films with country jut to show how "artsy" he is
And finally
>Two movies from 2014, including #1

It's strange to have a list with utter pleb taste, as well as pretty good taste. No consistency.
>>
>>64192442
Just like Trainwreck and Inside Out was. Who cares what BEE says.
>>
>>64189846
Swap Lunar Park with The Informers.
>>
>>64190846
Glamorama is the quintessential take down of our vapid celebrity culture. I'd say that and American Psycho are his two best, but all of his first five are great books.
>>
Anyone that doesn't include Mad Max: Fury Road is a fucking pleb and a disgrace
>>
>>64189226
Who gives a fuck what this bitter, dick-loving attention whore thinks about movies?

He's only written one thing worth reading his entire life and that was almost twenty years ago.

And Bret, in case you're reading this thread, which you might be, go whine about it on twitter, you hack. You were never even ten percent the writer that DFW was and you never will be.
>>
surprised to see he liked bridge of spies. seems like something he might hate
>>
>>64189334
Wild Tales is pretty terrible, and this is coming from someone who loves Argentina. I suspect it's acclaim is primarily from people who want to seem obscure in their tastes or automatically give a movie a bump because it's in another language.
>>
>>64192880
It's entertaining but it's not that good
>>
>>64189226

>Bridge Of Spies

>>64192881
>muh DFW
literally a reddit-approved author.
>>
>>64189321
>>64189549
It's so disheartening to see what Ellis has become. I'll always love him, but an aging author going on twitter diatribes, hosting a podcast, rehashing old works, and writing movies for pornstars is exactly the kind of character he would have eviscerated in his earlier novels.
>>
>>64193113
Yeah he's really turned into an uncool caricature. But we all get old and uncool. At least most of us have the balls to admit it.
>>
>>64192989
I don't get this criticism. It's about the absolute pinnacle of what an action movie can be, and the fact that it was meticulously crafted and had actual creative effort put into it automatically puts it above 99% of the movies we got this year.
>>
>>64193191
I don't liek Theron's acting and I don't like they go back the same way but in reverse.

That'sa bout it.

Very good movie.
>>
>>64193070
Like I give a fuck what reddit thinks about DFW. He's the best writer of his generation and we lost an incredible talent when he died. BEE will be nowhere near as relevant in 30 years. Hell, he's nowhere near as relevant today.

Go read Infinite Jest and stop labeling people solely by the websites they visit, you fag.

It doesn't even have the Pixar feels. It was so lifeless for a Pixar movie. I don't know how it has a 98%. Rotten Tomatoes is less accurate than IMDB or Metacritic now. At least I can get a more reliable ballpark with those sites and not expect to be blown away by mediocrity. Like, Inside out just isn't 98% worthy. Also, Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 isn't a 6%. It's not offensively bad, you should fucking know what to expect. 3/10? Sure. Rotten Tomatoes is shit.

I agree with you, but I don't think you quite get how Rotten Tomatoes works.
>>
>>64194798
To me, the movie was so bizarrely random. It seemed like the script was written as one of those games where someone writes a paragraph, then passes it to someone else who writes a paragraph and so on.

I know most people don't notice stuff like this, but it was infuriating.
