Is there too much focus on the personal lives of the companions, or not enough? Do personal, including those of the Doctor, his muddled, constantly being added to past, really matter in this type of show at all?
>>
>>64186217

The companion is important because they are an audience surrogate and the doctor needs to keep an air of mystery around him

>>
>>64186807
Speaking of Canon, it fascinates me how different franchises address the issue of canon.

Like because Star Wars had the "everything with the label is canon" attitude, the EU just got tremendously gunked up with a lot of shit. Star Trek on the other hand just went with "Only the TV episodes and movies are canon, the rest is irrelevant".

And it seems like Doctor Who is taking the old Star Wars approach, but also with a "who gives a shit" attitude towards canon.

Just a thought.

Also, when shark fins are harvested, often the fins are simply lopped off and the shark thrown overboard. The shark, now unable to stay upright, can no longer swim. As sharks must swim in order to force water through their gills, the inability to swim causes them to essentially drown.

And thus we drown fish.

Their response is basically

*They really like their in-house composer/s
*They have a decent working relationship with marigold and they got the rights for the torchwood theme from him
*They will use each marigold theme for different doctors as they come (ie the 10 audios will have his series 4 theme, 11 will get his series 5 theme, etc), they got those rights
*THey 'haven't even really thought much' about offering to get the cues like I Am The Doctor, basically implied they weren't interestsed

bit of a shame but they did say it was possible theyd try and get them later on

It's fascinating to me how a clear picture of 8's life is finally emerging after two decades.

The EDA novels pick up right after the 1996 film, with Alien Bodies mentioning the regeneration took place just three years ago. After the EDAs, the comics happen, because there's nowhere else for them to go. Then the audio dramas take us right into the Time War and NOTD.

- Neon page takes the piss out of him.
- Anonymous user with UK IP tries to change it to official Neon shill spiel.
- at it for hours into the night, endless back and forth reverting, they vandalise other stuff including people's user pages with nothing on them lel
- at one point they start saying ' Website interference by troll reported to mods by Midnight Communications Ltd', which is a PR agency based near Neon
- Wikia mods presumably get the wrong is and b& the two users who were undoing the vandalism.
- Broken mirrors logs on today, b&s the culprit and fixes all pages, but can't remove the Wikia-wide blocks on the 2 /who/res

Maintenance man of the universe here:
The wiki will probably not be deleted by Wikia. The last time something like this happened, it resulted in a page being wiped and locked, and by the next day we had a new copy of the page up with offending material removed.

What happened:
1. Mysterious IP starts making edits to the Neon Visual pages, and to any pages that mention Neon Visual (Foreman, Tce's user profile)
2. Tce and DoctorBallzintime revert changes as fast as their fat little fingers can manage
3. Mysterious IP reports them to Wikia as trolls, vandals, and other internet supervillains
4. Mysterious IP is mysteriously linked to a mysterious british-based PR firm
5. A wise and noble administrator takes time out of his no doubt very busy schedule to block the mysterious IP and revert all changes, and I bet he's handsome too
6. Tce and DoctorBallzintime remain blocked on all Wikias (though Wikia's global blocks are supposed to be reserved exclusively for people vandalizing numerous wikis, and DoctorBallzintime does not edit any other wikis at all)
7. That clever and interesting Admin who I hear has obviously had hundreds of girlfriends appeals the ban
8. You posted your questions
9. I answered them up to this point
10. 10.

What are the Doctor Who equivalents of our war-time powers? I think Gallifrey Base is Gallifrey (stuffy old cunts, important, lots of rules and regulations) and /who/ is Faction Paradox (small and anarchic, not particularly powerful, always trying to cause trouble for the Time Lords). NeonVisual is, I don't know, the Rani or something.
>>
>>64190269
You can set it in your profile but it tends to look like shit and not all functions are present because css are no longer written for it properly.
Uncyclopedia was an exception during wikia design massacre because of its roots.

Honestly, I don't really know because there's no way of knowing exactly what it was that got the page (Phil Sandifer's) deleted, though through process of elimination it was probably the bit where the wiki accused him of actual murder. The current Sandifer page has most of the old content, though presented in a slightly more obnoxious (and, potentially, less actionable) way.

I'm still not convinced it was actually Phil who had it taken down, since it had been ground zero for a few edit wars already and might have gotten some attention for that and for its content.

Really enjoying 1 right now. Confused by River's theme, though; can't tell if it's an attempt at an operatic rendition of her TV theme, or just an attempt at original composition.

It's an original composition. See my posts earlier in the thread about Big Finish not that interested in using Marigold's musical cues, unfortunately.

Her theme is pretty good - identifiable melody, more than one section - but her theme in the show was much better.

I just finished listening to The Diary of River Song, and wanted to share some random thoughts.

The Boundless Sea - Decent intro with River an alleged archaeologist actually doing some sort of archaeology things. Sometimes a little contrived with the utter lack of common sense some of the secondary characters show.

Invited to a Marvelous Party - Another fairly solid episode although I sort of lost track of who was murdering who halfway through, and everyone who wasn't River was acting like an idiot yet again.

Signs - A slightly more surreal entry, kind of like Scherzo or The Natural History of Fear (or Heaven Sent TVwise). A strong performance from Alex Kingston. I'm not certain I was entirely convinced by Samuel West's performance as "Mr. Song", although I suppose that was rather the point in the end.

Rulers of the Universe - The most straightforward sci fi Doctor Who like entry in the boxset. Always a pleasure to hear Paul McGann, though his interactions with River were hampered by the fact hat River can't actually meet him in person they still managed to build some chemistry. This episode does demonstrate some of the problems with actually depicting the Time War. I felt Eight's allusions to "if you want to get involved in the war then you really don't have any understanding of what the war is" or "one misstep and you and your entire species would never have existed" reminded me of how the Time War was described in RTD's era, as something so horrible and mindbending it's best not spoken directly about. In comparison, the random "souvenirs of the war" that Eight pulled out like "a chronon mine that send you back in time forever" or an artifact that makes you untouchable by keeping you constantly ten nanoseconds ahead" cheapened it slightly, from an apocalyptic clusterfuck of causality chess to a war of Doraemon gadgets.

Warm orange is the biggest problem with pre-capaldi who
They rarely ever got away from it, and when they did it was just dark teal

Capaldi's era by far has the most variety in color tones, There are warm episodes like Robot of Sherwood and Forest of the Night, dark episodes like Dark Water/Death in Heaven, and then others in between with varying main colors. Skaro was pink, flatline was black and orange, listen was all kinds of strong colored lights, etc

you're just a pleb with no appreciation for tonal variety that doesn't default on warm orange

The doctor still has plenty of mystery around him in that episode
HS works as a one off special thing, they can't make every episode of the show like that. As it is there was a fair portion of the normie audience who hated that episode for being slow and boring since there was no companion to keep them entertained

Not like THAT, but you could totally have an entire series where the Doctor has no travelling companion and instead just interacts with whoever he meets. That's basically what RTD's specials year was. We sort of got it this year with The Woman Who Lived, and again for the first half of Hell Bent.

Hurt and the theme were good but the stories were disappointingly mediocre Briggs fare. Wasting Sir John Hurt on drinking juice and blurting sci fi nonsense about null zones is not what we wanted. The fact War acts less war-y than 7 or even 10 is also frustrating. On the bring side the river and torchwood audios are great

Somebody doesn't understand color grading right here...

S5 was quite a happy series. Like a fairytale. Full of colors.

S8 had a darker color scheme, but still a lot of colors. Just like the Doctor.

S9 had a cool color, as the stories were kinda more serious. Not saying they were, but they intended that.

The color grading in S9 was spectacular.
>>
>>64192490
I think it's pretty representative of how the quality has been in recent years. Actually, the decline seems to have roughly coincided with their decision to release practically everything in the form of box sets - Dark Eyes 1 is the only one I've found really satisfying.

I do wish they'd relax the box set format a bit and do some eda style series for some lines - would a UNIT series really be that much work? The two actresses aren't in high demand. I'd kill for 8 to get a series format again too

As opposed to audiobooks, which are generally a cast of one, maybe a few. I actually prefer the audiobook format to the audioplay format, if only because in an audiobook you can just have narration and not have to justify it with "Great powers, Ace, look at that massive blue elephant! Why it's pooping all over that Cyberman!" style dialogue.
