all cuck jokes aside Cinemassacre aka angry video game nerd has a pretty solid amount of videos that cover all the different godzilla and gamera films.
>>64173841
Bumping you, OP
Gamera had some interesting monsters. Like the giant chameleon that had freeze breath that it shot out of its tongue and a rainbow death ray fired from its back.

Manga barugon had a based af design
>>64173841
What does /tv/ think of the new design?
I wish someone would start making cool figures of all the classic beasts.
Hell i'd settle for build your own kits at this point like Gundam gets shat out every year.

Gamera AOL is not far behind

Do you guys like to watch the movies in English or Japanese?
>>64176979
Japanese, but I don't mind most of the dubs. The 70s ones, some 60s ones, millenniums ones except GMK (they fuck up bad on parts of translation that changes the context of the movie) and half ofthe Heisei dubs.
Godzilla raids again got the hardest blow because it turns it into a comedy (albiet a very watchable comedy).
Simply put: if I have the option, I'll go Japanese 80% of the time, but if it's dubbed on tv I won't mind

>>64177084
I was watching Godzilla vs. Mothra 1964 for the first time today. I was watching the English dub for about 10 minutes before I had to switch. I couldn't stand the actors faking Jap accents - it was driving me nuts.
The dubs that sound like they're cheap tourists/Aussies (e.g. "Godziller!") - now those I like.

El Rey was playing a bunch of Godzilla movies the other day. I tried watching one, but couldn't because it was dubbed.
>>64177996
I appreciate the hell out of them for doing that, but I get triggered so hard seeing them be so out of order
>>64177853
During, ha. The two bad guys were the best characters by far, though the qt reporter was awwight. The movie was a blast. Godzilla could not stop fucking tripping over everything, the poor bastard.
>>64177996
The Terror of Mechagodzilla was a pretty fun dub. I feel like by the 70s the dubs had went from "ultra bad" to "humorously bad."

This book is excellent.

Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters by August Ragone is a must read... Also filled with some very good behind the scenes pictures.
What are the GOAT showa era kaiju films?
My two indisputable favourites are Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 1974, and Gamera vs Guiron. Both perfectly encapsulate everything I love about the genre and are cheesy enough to be hilarious while still being enjoyable movies on the whole.
>>64179309
>Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 1974
Is there somewhere i can watch this? This appears to be one of the only Showa-era Goji films that hasn't seen a modern release. Is there a rip or torrent out there?
>>64179309
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla is GOAT kaiju comfycore. Based monsters and villians, awesome battles and music, and excellent pacing. Can't understand how fans can hate the 70s, it was easily the most based godzilla era
>>64179385
The closest I can get to you is the iTunes copy that is English dub. Damn shame it's hard to find now, I still own the vhs
>>64179580
The hate the seventies for Godzilla versus Hedorah, Godzilla versus Gigan, and Godzilla's Revenge. Godzilla versus Megalon through Terror of MechaGodzilla are quite liked though.
>>64179385
There used to be a torrent, or rather a couple, with the whole series in original Japanese versions with embedded English subtitles. I still have the torrent files in case it got deleted (but I don't know if it would work).
It's definitely somewhere. I think only a couple Toho movies can't be found in their original versions.
-Dogora (1964)
-King Kong Escapes (1967)
And maybe Mothra but I'm not sure. Half Human can't be bought legally in its original version but there are pirated versions. Varan is also hard to found but I managed to seemlessly edit the movie from three separate parts.
>>64179580
Final fight in GvMG is so badass. Like something out of a Rocky movie.
>>64179645
Revenge was 1969 (eh, we're just splitting hairs at this point)
>>64179705
Has Stallone confirmed that Rocky iv is actually a remake of godzilla vs Mechagodzilla?

>>64179645
Gigan, Revenge, and Son of Godzilla are all irredeemably bad- but aside from a kind of lack luster final fight, I really enjoy Godzilla vs The Smog Monster.
It's the essential stoner-core kaiju flick.
>>64179862
Thank you very much! I get worried with shady torrent websites/downloads (though I'm trying one out). Looking forward to finally getting a chance to watch it.
I unironically enjoy godzilla vs gigan, I loved the pacing, and the tag team dynamic of godzilla/Anguirus vs Ghidorah/gigan. It's a brocore movie.
Son of godzilla I'll never understand. I can understand kinda the hate for revenge, but I felt Kubo and the human cast did fantastic, the score was great, and the monster scenes were great. Minya will be the deal breaker for some, but I felt he added a layer of emotion to godzilla. Plus that ending. I will say the godizlla suit is ugly as sin
>>64180427
Revenge is pretty shitty but the Gabara fight has to be a highlight for hilarious shit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-8zDix2yRk
You've convinced me to give Gigan a chance though.
>>64180722
I love that revenge becomes a dark af movie when you really look at the events in context:
>autistic kid is basically home alone because his parents have to work to make ends meet
>bullied all day
>escapes to fantasy land to escape harsh reality
>is kidnapped by would be killers
>beats up bully and basically becomes a gang leader
Also tbqh I never minded stock footage with Gigan, I really appreciate all the work Nakano put into the 70s and it really showed in the movies, also with the coreography. Also the corn guy is GOAT Showa character
>>64173841
I'm a kaiju fan.
I got for Christmas
>>64181202
Nice m8. Awesome find
>>64180882
Well I wouldn't call it much darker than Bastion's character in say, Neverending Story, when he does the exact same thing.
Some of the 70s movies are a bit slow-paced. Terror of Mechagodzilla seemed to be obsessed with watching characters drive back and forth from the same locations to have romantic scenes, interspersed with footage of a motionless Mechagodzilla in a cave.
>>64181256
Yeah, I love ToMG to death, but Honda was not an action director. I loved what he did with the characters, but pacing was way off at times. The monster scenes were awesome though, and that ending gets me every time. Shame the American VHS ruined it and I had to wait till classic medias DVD to watch the real thing
>>64181306
If there's one thing I truly enjoy about ToMG it is the visible joy that Titanosaurus has being the biggest absolute prick imaginable. The way he jumps for joy after kicking Goji in the nuts while he's down is priceless. He steals the show.

>>64182270
It's a good movie, but I perfer godzilla x Mechagodzilla, the 70s Mechagodzilla, the orginal, and 1984 more
>>64182270
I do like that movie, but I enjoyed Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla more. I didn't mind the human plot as much, and I liked Kiryu's fighting style. The fights seemed genuinely balanced and very well done in my opinion.

Is it bad that Godzilla vs Hedorah is legitimately one of my favorite Godzilla flicks? It's so unsettlingly weird and Hedorah is such a fucking menace that I can't help but love it. It's up there with '54 and GMK

>Heisei Godzilla was awful.
Of the Heisei I've watched, there's been some real winners.
The Mothra remake, while not as good as the original, is still fun and exciting, and the King Ghidorah movie is one of the more entertaining Godzilla movies imo. Biollante is one of the cooler kaiju designs (even if the movie gets dull during the middle portion). Destroyah is a fun movie as well.
>>64178520
This, although it doesn't go beyond the Showa era and DAM, it's great.

looks awesome dude.
funny how the "G stomps Alcatraz" scene was deleted (note how he just disappears from the movie after the Golden Gate scene until Elizabeth Olsen sees him emerging from underwater once again), yet they still kept putting it on merch.
