Was it really that bad?
>>
>>64170684
hahaha no
plebs will be plebs
it's one of the best films of the current century
>>
>>64170684
Nah it was aight. 7.5/10
>>
Most great movies alienate at least as many people as they please. Once you're a master artist the lower the rotten tomatoes score the better really.
>>
literally top kinography
>>
>inb4 mannfags say its the greatest thing since the wheel
Oh wait seems like im too late
No wonder everyone thinks you people are obnoxious, your all just hyperbolye

It was okay, but it's like after Collateral, Michael Mann snorted a huge line of cocaine and said, "you know what? Fuck all of this. Lighting, tracks, tripods, everything that makes for good film technique, let's just get a fucking camcorder and record this shit, and we'll sort it out in the editing room later."

To this day, he's never recorded from that cocaine binge.
>>
>>64170684
>RT

It got a 6 on IMDB
>>
>>64171072
B-b-but muh realism!!
>>
>>64170684
no, it's one my favourites

it's such a titillating experience I can't explain it
>>
>>64171072
Collateral to the present day has been the best period of his career. He transcended to a higher plane of filmaking.
>>
>>64171078
That's really low for imdb
>>
>>64171131
Collateral is a flick at best and probably manns worst t͏͏b͏͏h
>>
>>64171131
Oh sweet Jesus, stop pushing this stupid meme, it's a failure and so are you.
>>
>>64171072
I think some of the photography in his digital films is amazing and unique, and would lack that quality on traditional film.
>>
>>64171165
It's certainly not his best but it was the beginning of the era of Mann that would eventually develop into Blackhat.

collateral was the end of his heyday.
>>
>>64171379
No. Miami Vice alone was worth his entire career up until that point. He went from a being reliably good film maker to being one of the greatest boundary pushing artists on the planet.
>>
>>64170684
Its not a bad film. It also not a great film. It looks great, but the great parts stand in stark contrast with the not so great parts.

miami vice was beautiful to look at, even more than Collateral, but it was the worse movie

I'm objectively correct
>>
A impudent replication.
>>
follows the same principal like almost every Mann movie, 6/10 film but 9/10 action scenes
>>
>>64171553
>heh, the plot and characterization aren't traditional, therefore it can't be a good movie

stick to Nolan, kid
>>
>>64171553
Excuse me for supporting the work of a master auteur instead of talking about the latest hollywood meme product.
>>
>>64171644
There's straying from traditions then there's shit. The Miami Vice movie was shit.
>>
>>64171574
>but it was the worse movie
It seemed worse to you only because you weren't equipped to digest it. Mann threw the rule book out of the window, which results in great boundary pushing art but obviously general viewers are going to be alienated by the unfamiliar.
>>
>>64170684
The True Detective season 2 of cinema i.e a misunderstood gem.
>>
>>64171755
>There's straying from traditions then there's shit.
You lack the filmic education required to tell the difference.
>>
>>64170684

>Praise Collateral
>Shit on Miami Vice

Pleb reviewers really tipped their hand on this one
>>
>>64171765
I just found it boring

>Blackhat
so many of it's images are already seared in my brain

i’ve seen blackhat dismissed by plebs on /tv/ as silly or dramatically flat. It isn’t, but I rather think that misses the point. You don’t face up to a film like this look to pick apart its dialogue or story, even if you think they’ll withstand the scrutiny. when a rush of images this exquisite are upon you the only appropriate response is to give yourself over to them. Mann has pushed the action movie into the realm of abstract expressionism alright. Simply stand back and luxuriate in the beauty.
>>
>>64171862
Well that's to be expected. Do you even have a formal cinema education?
>>
>64170684
it's actually real good.
>>
no

>that fucking moby when rescuing trudy
Literal tears
>>
how do you want your audio levels senpai?
>>
>>64170684
Yeah, that's about right. It was beautiful to look at, especially the night photography, but Mann movies always are beautiful in that department.

But while his movies have always been slick and cool, Miami Vice was downright cold. I felt no connection with the characters, and the plot didn't engage me either.
>>
it was pretty bad but for contrarian sake /tv/ will say its underrated and one of mann's best

Collateral is really fucking great. Better than Thief and that native american flick.

I can see how someone would say Heat is objectively better, and I'm not going to argue with them, but I liked Collateral more.
>>
>>64172723
Oh fuck I forgot about The Insider. That's by far his best one.
>>
>>64172723
I don't like the script

felt like a parody of True Detective towards the end where Cruise is talking and they crash the car

>>64173034
It's so conventional though
>>
>>64173639
You watched Collateral AFTER you watched True Detective? What are you, 12?
>>
>>64173788
20

but yeah, Collateral is at it's best if you pretend it's a comedy from the Coen Brothers. Decent flick and well shot but won't stand the test of time

Sure thing imdb mo/v/ie buff

you'll grow out of your memetic cine-sensibilities one day
>>
>>64174085
Nice try. Mann is the dagger in the shadows ready to cut the throat of the video game player, the capeshit enabler, the IMDB sensibilities "movie buff". He is a hammer to the skull of infantilization. He will not lest until the entertainment inflection has been purged from mainstream cinema.
>>
>>64174205
Then you wouldn't be defending the good-movie pandering entertainment meme trash that is Collateral
>>
>>64174296
Collateral was but the capeshit platform built for which for Mann to strike with his artistic attack. It was a necessary stepping stone, not one of his real films, but even so, at age 20 you lack the background to even begin to approach Mann discussion.
>>
>>64174398
It was paycheck shit and a test run for Miami Vice

no way around it t͏͏b͏͏h. Admit it, he shouldn't have used that script.
>>
>>64174553
If he didn't use the capeshit friendly script with Collateral then Miami Vice wouldn't have been made.
>>
>>64171882
dat anamorphic bokeh

fair enough
