Pulp Fiction is about how pop culture subtly influences people's behavior and lives.

You have to be a fan of his style of dialogue and the way characters interact with one another in a particular scene. His disjointed style is what made him stand out, because his movies wouldn't have the same effect told from a linear narrative.
As for his relevance, he's one of the few Hollywood directors still doing his own thing and not caving in to industry pressure to make corporate schlock.
