Just finished watching the first 8 Friday the 13th movies. (Was told by multiple people to skip last 4)
Holy fuck they're comfy. Comfiest horror franchise ever, perhaps. I enjoyed the hell out of all of them. Much better than I expected. No lame Freddy puns. No convoluted family story lines like Myers. Just dumb teens getting hacked because they happen to be in the woods...or a boat.

JGTH isn't as bad as everyone says. Jason X is fucking horrible. FvJ is a comic book movie with Jason magically becoming afraid of water. And the remake is typical shit. New Line movies don't exist to me.

I can't speak for other anon's but freddy vs. jason had been rumored to be a thing since the 80's. When they finally released it they had an entire generation of kids who grew up with those two as the big movie monsters, and it had no way to live up to the (unrealistic) expectations the audience had.

Agreed 100% with everything you've said after your ranking, though. X is the fucking worst pile of shit on par with fucking Leprechaun 4. FvsJ is whatever. It's as good as it could have been, but it doesn't compare to the rest and it sure as shit didn't live up to the decade+ of anticipation. The remake isn't even worth mentioning.
If OP is still around and looking for more then check this out. The second most comprehensive horror doc out there. Around 7 hours of greatness. It's only second to Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, but it was done by the same people. The only reason it falls short to the Elm Street one is because they didn't have much to discuss in terms of story lines. The major through line is the constant battles with the censors.

A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th are the only horror franchises that I like enough to watch a 4 hour and 7 hour documentary on now that I think about it.
Hellraiser was shit after the second movie and the first Texas Chainsaw movie is the only one that is good.
I would definitely watch a documentary on the Leprechaun franchise...maybe even Child's Play or Critters if it was made by the same people.
