Can we talk about this movie please? I don't think an ending has left me feeling so angry before.

This was basically "Listen & Believe: The Movie". She slit a guy's throat, blood everywhere, but she said she was being raped at the time, so I guess no further investigation is necessary. Case closed.
>>
The guy owned a nice car and a mansion. Obviously he was a working man which means he had an alibi for that morning. Easy as shit to solve.
>>
>>64149096
Did she delete all the footage of her willingly entering his house since she told everyone she was kidnapped?

And shouldn't there be a massive wound on her body somewhere from where all that blood on the kitchen floor came from?

The cops were completely incompetent.
>>
>>64149096
That was all her Amazing Amy money. He didn't have a job.
>>
Watch "Return to Sender" instead. Superior movie.
>>
>>64149137
I'm talking about Neil Patrick Harris. She had no fucking clue what he was doing when she "disappeared." It was morning so I'm assuming he was at work paying for his expensive shit. All the police have to do is call his place of work to figure out he was behind a desk instead of at the scene of the crime. But I guess the police in this movie are completely fucking worthless and can't do anything right.
>>
>>64149132
That was the point of the movie.

It's criticizing many things, and it's supposed to make you feel upset and unsatisfied at the end to get the message across.
>>
>>64149491
I watched this for the first time yesterday completely clueless I'm so mad reading what you have just said.
>>
>>64149491
she faked the rape then killed him
>>
The book is better.

The first third of the book where you're reading her fake account of their relationship is insanely accurate of your typical real life relationship.
>>
>>64149872
Her defense at the end of the film was that he kidnapped her that morning from her home. Obvioulsy not the case because she left the house alone and faked her death. At this exact moment Neil was probably at work. Understand? She had no fucking clue where he was. He wasn't part of her plan at that moment.
>>
>>64149491
The book explained this to make sense, I forgot what it was though.
>>
>>64150048
Neil did not work, not saying he didn't have another alibi, but he was old money and did not work.
>>
>>64148915
I almost walked out of the theater when you found out she's alive, I was so hyped for a who dun it. I bled it out and it fucking sucked.

Why would someone as methodical and cunning as Amy bring her entire purse of cash with her to play mini-golf?
>>
>>64151488
the point was that somehow the police loved her and believed everything she said except for that one detective. the ending scene even has the detective calling out the gone girl, but then she makes some shit up and the cops are like "oh you poor thing"
>>
One year ago, /tv/ recognized this as one of the very best of the year. Now, /starwars/ can only deal in >muh plotholes XD
>>
>>64151615
I know, I'm just saying that mentioning the tapes is an incoherent move for Amy, she took an exceptional risk there...
>>
>>64150310

Independently of the plotholes, the point was that the world loved Amy, and that's why she was able to get away with it. This and Birdman were the best of 2014 imo.

If you seriously didn't enjoy a movie and were 'about to walk out of the theater' because of something you think is a plothole or incoherence in the story, or even just something that is part of the story that you don't think should be there, you're going into it with the wrong mindset.

I don't give a shit about Fincher either way - if he makes a good movie, he makes a good movie. If it's shit, it's shit.
The movie is not supposed to be an exact replica of real life. Obviously, there's the potential for deep police investigations into all of the events of the movie. However, that wasn't the point, and it wouldn't make a very good story if all that happened and the police came in at the end and said "Wait a sec, you are arrest!".
It's making a point/statement, and it knows what that point is. It's criticizing the media, police, and human nature in general. It goes to the extremes in each of those aspects in order to convey the statement it's trying to convey.
Even then, it's not like shit like this HASNT happened in real life. The wife was idolized by the media, and it only intensifies throughout the film, which is why she gets a "slide". See OJ Simpson and various other "victims"/celebrities.

It was written by a woman.
If Gillian Flynn were a man this movie would never have been made and the book would be denounced as MRA propaganda.

It would have been a better story if Affleck was guilty.
>>
>>64155602
If you need to create a completely unrealistic scenario in order to make a point about real things, you're defeating your own arguments.

Which is something female authors don't seem to get, even after hundreds of years.
>>
>>64155713
>>64155805
If NPH was keeping her captive and raping her daily, the camera system would have him coming and going, daily. If he deleted those logs, there would be holes in the logs where he was arriving and departing. He had cleaning staff there maintaining the lake house semi-regularly during the interval where amy was supposed to be captive and being raped to sleep every night.

Which isn't even the biggest hole in her story.
>>
>>64157245
>completely unrealistic
That's a bit of a stretch, friendo. Also sounds like you might just be criticizing her more harshly because she's a woman, which - again - has no reflection on the story itself.

Also, what the fuck are parables, fairy tales, literally anything that isn't a documentary?

>fake account of their relationship is insanely accurate of your typical real life relationship.

I always had the impression their meeting at the party was fake because of how cheesy it was and Nick was pretty charming, a complete difference from how he is like in real time.
>>
>>64150310
You really thought she was dead? Was this your first Fincher movie?
>>

You do realize that that is a major point though. It's calling out the media and law enforcement on its BS.
>>
>>64158693
Amy mixed truth with lies. It wasn't unfathomable that their relationship started off that way.
>>
>>64159133
Nick came across as a chad so I doubt he was as smart as he seemed in their encounter. Amy says the beginning of the story was key so I pretty certain she added fantasies to that meeting.
>>
>>64159220
I don't think he came off particularly intellectual, he was just charming and funny. Maybe that whole meeting was concocted but to snag a girl like Amy you would pretty much have to be a charming alpha Chad.

The book spends a lot of time on his dad issues and how he wanted to be a dad to prove he could do a better job.

Besides what others have said, the hubby knew that if he left or continued to try and prove his wife was a monster, she'd do pretty much ANYTHING to deny him access to his kid (up to and including falsely accusing him of physical and sexual abuse towards the kid) and also brainwash the kid into hating his father's guts.

The only chance he had to make sure his kid was not another victim of Amy, was to eat shit and basically stay married to her and promote her lies.
>>
>>64153370
It got a TON of criticism when it came out.

Granted the book, was largely championed by feminazis when it came out (to the point that the feminist crowd were shitting bricks that Hollywood would force a change in the ending so Amy gets caught and goes to jail for her crimes). But the movie was widely divided because among other things, it doubled down on Amy being evil.

The movie itself fell into two camps reaction-wise:

1. Those who felt Amy did nothing wrong and was fully justified

2. The ones who HATED HATED HATED the film and were flat out accusing Flynn and Fincher of making the movie be a blatant Pro MRA film.

The fact that there was a huge fear of it being seen as pro-MRA led to a lot of websites largely downplaying coverage of the film. It got reviewed, but for all of the hype SJW controlled pop culture websites were basically wanting the film to leave theaters as quickly as possible so they could pretend it never existed.
>>
>>64164139
I can understand this but... if he was so sure he was gonna leave her (assuming the consequences), why a kid should change his mind? Just fuck the child (still unborn btw), raising him along his psychomother is a hell far worse than just abandon both...
>>
>>64164369

>>64148915

>>
>>64163439
If he had showed at least the slightest of interest in fixing the relationship maybe she wouldnt had wanted to fuck his shit up
>>
Was it incest?
>>
>>64164411
Again, this was omitted in the movie but in the book, Nick has HUGE daddy issues due to the abuse he suffered at the hands of his father, which is why he is going to endure Amy's torments and force a few torments of his own (like banning Amy from banishing his twin sister from Nick and the kid's life), to make sure the kid doesn't have to endure what he endured at his dad's hands from Amy.
>>
>>64164369
Luckily it was a box-office hit though. SJW propaganda can fail aswell.
>>
>>64158677
>I don't know why you're blaming him

>>
>>64160656

>>64164488
You realize nothing the movie showed (read: she said) about the relationship is accurate, right? Because it was all fabricated to give credence to the lie that he was a murderer?
>>
>>64164680
>You realize nothing the movie showed (read: she said) about the relationship is accurate, right
Part of it is true while the other is exagerated. You can see how little of a fuck he gave about Amy during the whole missing chapter while in the end of the movie shows she cares wnough about him to give the relationship another chance but now Nick has to try to make it work.
>>
>>64164603
Fincher consistently makes the best possible movie from a script.

This was a case where the script was garbage, so the movie was little more than passable.
>>

Feminazis truly believe that Amy was fully justified in that she was "avenging herself against the patriarchy" and that Nick's cheating made him fair game for torment.

Similarly, in the book, Desi is a LOT more skeevy and manipulative towards Amy once she went running to him for safety after getting robbed. So feminists again, thought he had it coming. It also "helped" that in the book, Flynn never shows/describes Amy murdering Desi. The chapter ends just as she gets him drunk and he passes out and in the following Amy chapter, she is in police custody having already killed Desi and alerted the police that she had been "kidnapped" all this time.

Also, the movie changed the entire plotline with the ex she claimed raped her (in the book, she changed her mind and recanted her claim of being raped so the charges got dropped, but in the film she showed ZERO regret and went full steam ahead towards falsely accusing Scooty McNairy of rape in order to ruin his life, ultimately forcing him to take a plea bargain and spend a couple of years in prison (and be permanently registered as a sex offender) rather than go to trial, where Amy was all ready to lie on the stand and face decades in prison for rape/assault with the intent to kill.)

The later was one of the things that the feminazis HATED HATED HATED about the film and what they pointed to with regards to the film being "Pro-MRA".

Yeah.

The feminist crowd fell in love with the book and the whole "Cool Girl" speech, which they obsessed over as being a "crowning moment of modern literature" in terms of justifying any and all evils inflicted upon men by women.

When the movie was being made, they were obsessed with Fincher possibly "ruining" this "important literature monologue in the history of modern literature" and even when Fincher gave lip service, they still bitched and moaned about how he "messed it up" by treating it not as a seminal "to be or not to be" scene but as a generic villain speech.

I'd say the Cool Girl speech was the weakest moment in the film. Felt quite out of sync.

Shes a psychopath. Her obsession is to have a "perfect" family. Shes wants a grounded, dedicated father and to be the strong/perfect mother. There's also the bit about how NPH came as he died, and she made sure to ride him every second he was bleeding out. Not in the book, of course, but in the movie, nick's clearly going to be raising another man's child.

Which just goes to another gigantic hole in her story. As, after she escapes, shes supposed to be 2-3 months pregnant.

virgins everywhere.
you're kidding right? it's uncivilized to fuck clothed, that's why it's fun.

it implies spontaneity and, for the man, control (can do whatever whenever whereever)

note that nobody ever fucks with clothes on in a bedroom, unless they're really lazy or really busy.

You dirty pig, having sex without clothes omg dude you rancid swine.

That´s what every family aspires. You make it sound like she wasnt willing to concede things to make it work, she accepted Nick desition to live in the town because that would make him happy.

The psycho bitch persona was triggered entirely by Nick cheating.

The literal psychopath perfectionist was who she was her entire life.

The bits about her parents idealizing her childhood were lies. Her parents wrote her literal childhood.
