Look at things from Han/Leia's perspective. What would they tell their son about Vader? Next to nothing. As far as they were concerned he was just some evil schmuck. A bad guy who got put down. Even when Leia found out he was her father it was secondhand and she didn't really give a shit.
But Luke would have spoken of him much differently. He would have told Ben about the complex war between light and dark inside Vader, his fall, his redemption, etc.. and Ben would have thought "oh wow, I bet this Vader guy would understand my pain, he's so awesome!" And that would have been the beginning of his descent into emoshit.

Luke finds old holocrons explaining how the Jedi used to do their training. So he sees Ben has Jedi powers and so he takes him when he's really young or Leia and Han both agree to send him off with Luke.
Ben feels abandoned by his parents and has resentment towards them, a negative emotion that Snoke exploits to convince Luke's best student to turn against his teacher and all of his peers.
