Not back then. In that era Scott was far more nit-picky. Early Cameron was more in the B-movie pragmatic style with a mind for bang for the buck. Scott was more that he wanted it a particular way and money be damned. Cameron didn't go full Cameron untill Abyss, before that he was still in Roger Corman mode.
They're both great and it's awesome that a worthy sequel could even be made.
