The thing about the force awakens lightsaber fight is that the light from the sabers is actually real and illuminates everything around them with the color of the blade. In previous star wars movies they didnt light up on set so they look lifeless and cheesy.

Choreography wise, yes.
But in terms of pacing and character, Luke v Vader in V and VI are far better. The pacing specifically in ESB, the way the tension builds to Luke walking in the carbon freezing chamber and Vader is just standing there. It starts out very slowly but by the end of it Luke is hack and slashing desperately trying to survive. It takes time as well to settle down and build back up again, with Luke constantly getting pushed back and falling downward.
The duel in ROTJ is half as long but it's emotional, almost operatic when Luke lashes out at Vader.
In TFA the duel sorts starts at 11 and doesn't really come back, the transition from Finn to Rey was nice but by this point she was so powerful she easily overpowered Ren and they should have played with her being tempted with the dark side more.

I liked the Finn/Rey vs Kylo fight because it did show a little into their character: with Kylo clearly just fucking around with Finn until he gets caught in the shoulder, and then he wrecks him. Then Rey has her 'awakening.' I think compared to Obi vs Vader in IV, it's a good starting fight to a trilogy.

1. Kylo's not a Sith. He's, at best, a Dark Jedi, and not the most particularly talented one. Unless we see more about the Knights of Ren, that's what he is.
2. Kylo just fucking murdered his dad in cold blood, which had the exact opposite effect on his force powers and confidence that he expected. Then, he took a BOWCASTER straight to the rib cage. Finn got wrecked that entire fight and got a single lucky shot in, right where it fucking sucks to get a wound, especially when swordfighting. The fact that he was even standing by the time he fought Rey is a testament to his own goddamn stubornness.

I will keep on stating this in any thread concerning Kylo Ren's abilities.
Kylo is only good at FORCE POWER he is sub-par at everything else. He has shit concentration skills, can barely keep his emotions in check and through out the movie never once demonstrated competent sword fighting discipline. I repeat he has never DEMONSTRATED ANY DISCIPLINE in sword fighting in the movie.
Finn is able to stand toe to toe briefly because Kylo is basically emotionally and physically fucked at the end and has to rely on over exertion of his force power to win.
This is also the reason why Rey was able to beat Kylo because she not only had force power but also was able to control herself.
