Luke:
>learns he is force sensitive
>doesn't believe it
>trains with obi-wan
>practices on his own
>can barely force pull his lightsaber to him on hoth
>trains with yoda
>can barely lift a rock with the force and isn't effective at it until after spending a significant time training with Yoda

Rey:
>learns she is force sensitive
>believes it right away
>5 minutes after Ren leaves she is able to use a Jedi mind trick despite never being trained
>later that day she is able to overpower Ren (a Skywalker who was trained by Snoke and Luke) in the force by pulling the lightsaber to her with zero training or time to practice the force

That bullshit ruined the movie for me, as if the "witty" one liners and quips and overreacted comic relief bits weren't enough. Rey shouldn't have been able to use the force like that, it makes no sense in the context that was established in the first 6 movies. Even in most fucking superhero movies (which TFA felt like) the superhero doesn't understand how to use their power and sucks at it, but Rey is effective at it immediately...
>>
Yup and the she could out-pilot and out-shoot trained first order troopers despite never shooting or piloting before. And people wonder why others call her a Mary sue.
>>
>>64136464
>another rey is a mary sue thread
we get it man shes a mary sue.

Why do people word it like this? This movie is horribly written. This is how you should put it.

>>64137348
>implying any star wars was well written

Rey
>doesn't know she is force sensitive
>5 minutes after Ren leaves she is able to use a Jedi mind trick having just experienced what it feels like to use force-manipulation
>later that day she is able to overpower an emotionally unstable and gravely wounded Ren in the force by pulling a lightsaber that rejected Kylo and called to her, with zero training and little time to practice the force

So what does this have to do with Darth Sidious
>>
>>64136464

they had to change something to make plebs forget this was all a remake so they decided to make rey op like vader and kylo weak like luke
>>
It's almost as if 30 years ago they knew that making your hero suddenly become a self trained superjedi by the time they have to confront the bad guy at the end removes all tension from the story. Maybe they have something up their sleeve with TFA and she turns evil or something but it will never change the fact that this movie on its own merits was a bit shit.
>>
>>64136464
Oh come on it was fine. If they did a slow build, you people would just say she is a female Luke.

it's fucking tragic when nerds adopt a xeroxed canon of excuses for shitty character development in a disney movie.

"it seems like they've just used the same formula as every other disney film, but me and my fellow scholars have deduced that they are actually telling a feather subtle narrative that most normies would just ignorantly write off as bad storytelling"

give it a fucking rest. nobody thought that much about the character, cause if they did, they wouldn't be leaving it to you to nerdsplain everything.

SHEEV

best thing is the kind of people who get most angry about midichlorians are they same people who explain that there are specific innate levels of force sensitivity (midichlorians by another name) to excuse the sloppy ass superhero development of rey.

How does Ren trying and failing to look into her mind translate into her knowing how to do a Jedi mind trick? They aren't even the same power. Furthermore in know other movie has a character learned a force ability after having it used on them. Luke didn't learn how to shoot lightning after Palpatine shot lightning at him. You're making things up. And you didn't explain how she was able to force pull the lightsaber. Again, Luke was barely able to force pull his lightsaber on Hoth and that was with no resistance so how was Rey able to force pull the lightsaber, let alone overpower a trained Skywalker, with zero training or time to practice?

>How does Ren trying and failing to look into her mind translate into her knowing how to do a Jedi mind trick?

Easy she copied Ren, but put a command in the mind instead of reading it.

On Hoth the saber was frozen to the floor. For the rest, the force helped Rey win.

The more I remember about the movie, the more I hate it

was it really necessary to have the "let go of my hand" scene to point out that Rey was strong and that Finn was a coward.
>>
>>64137855
she could have said "let go of my hand" then use it for something useful
>>
>>64137785
Again you aren't explaining anything, just making things up. It is established in the films and every other piece of star wars canon that it takes significant practice to effectively use the force. Rey being so effective at the force with literally zero practice and training makes no sense in the star wars context. Horrible character development.
>>
>>64137926
Jedis let the force guide them. Not to mention Kylo was hurt by the bowcaster. Is it really that different from Luke blowing up the death star or Anakin blowing up space thing?
>>
>>64137987
Ok guide them, but she wasn't being guided by the force she was using it. If she let the force guide her in her duel that's one thing, but she used the force at will with no training or practice. Luke let the force guide him so he could pilot a x-wing and destroy the death star. Rey let the force guide her to keep up with Ren.

But if all it took use the force at will was to allow the force to guide you then no Jedi would ever need to be trained. Luke wouldn't have failed or been so poor in his force abilities early on and there would have been no Jedi temple.

There'd be no point to training or practice if you just need to let the force guide you to be able to use it at will, unless you needed to be trained to know how to tap into it or channel it and Rey was never trained. It's bullshit.

Letting the force guide her doesn't explain her knowing how to bend the force to her will. Otherwise, Luke would have never struggled in using the force since all he had to do was let the force guide him.

>I need to be spoonfed or things don't make sense for my incompetent weak mind
Cool story, bro.

>>64137687
You mean how did Kylo attempting to force mind-fuck Rey and her being able to resist him not create a shared bridge into each other's minds? And you're comparing mind tricks to Luke getting BTFO by the most advanced Sith ability of concentrating force energy into powerful force lightning? And you assume she pulled the lightsaber to herself and not that the lightsaber had been calling to her for the entire movie? And you want to know how a scared, unfocused, wounded force user in training was overpowered by a prodigy, with an obvious accelerated learning curve from an awakening, who just read all of his lightsaber training experience?
>>
>>64138172
Rey is the most special person in the galaxy though.
>>
>>64138344
You're making things up again. Ren looking into her mind doesn't translate into her learning how to do all that shit. It's never been established in any previous piece of canon and wasn't established here. If that was the case all she had to do was make a comment or something showing that Ren looking into her mind taught her all those force powers, but she didn't.

Besides if that is the case then how did Rey know how to look into Rens mind? She just learned she was force sensitive minutes before so how does she know how to use the force to read minds? You're using your own head canon to explain this plot hole but your head canon isn't real canon. What is canon is that it takes significant training and practice to be able to effectively use the force, even for a prodigy like Luke or Anakin.

And the lightsaber was calling to her? So now lightsabers can move themselves?
>>
>>64138441
So?
>>
>>64138551
I mean to take it further, if Ren looking into her mind taught her all that shit they could have done a little montage scene like when she touched the lightsaber to show that. But they didn't. Even in the books they made no comment and there was no narration saying that. You're making things up, your head canon isn't canon. It's a plot hole its bullshit.
