This scene was well done. The idea for the scene was to show the moment when Anakin turns to the dark side. This was all that was needed, a soundtrack and his face showing the conflict and his ultimate decision.

So damn good.

>I will never watch clone wars because I think all 3D stuff looks goofy as fuck

You're missing out on the best Star Wars ever filmed

after season 1 which is awful kiddie shit
and the clone wars movie which is so bad it's unbelievable

Clone Wars is so good it makes the prequels good, by explaining the characters and why you should care about them, and filling in all the details of how Palpatine came to power.
>>
I was honestly thinking just a while ago why TFA didn't feel right to me, and I think I finally got it.

Lucas was always a weird experimental film director, even the original star wars was actually an experimental film. It stylized itself after a Saturday serial, had some of the first truly dirty and used looking prop work at least in sci-fi as I can't say about all of film, the aliens were just this down to earth matter of fact thing. It just happened to be based on the concept from a hero with a thousand faces which made it really resonant with a lot of people.

And the more I think about it the prequels really were the same, they just didn't mesh as well with the public because instead of being this great but resonant and easy to understand story, it was this weird mesh of the fall of Rome and the rise of Napoleonic France, where the experimental visuals were CGI based and designed to contrast the gritty visuals in the original with this super pristine world and the Jedi doing all this crazy shit that they couldn't do by the time of the empire because everything had gone to shit. And the fall of a hero.

But TFA... it didn't try anything, except to be ultra personal. And this scene really made that just hit home, compare how Lucas understands how to use subtlety. The way he uses the light, compared to jar jar who just went. "umm, okay so red is bad and blue is good, and to show he's bad now we'll have the blue light go away so it's all red"
>>

>>64129889

This scene always used to unsettle me as a kid.

It's also quite a powerful one, that sweetens some subtle OT moments. Anakin's in deep thought, already regretting the things he has done and will do.

In VI, When Luke is captured and tells Vader that he can turn to the light, Vader responds with "It's too late for me, son." He turns to a balcony and looks out.

Echoes this scene quite a bit. POTTERY

I still think the first half of ANH (until Obi Wan dies) is better, but everything after that is worse than RotS.

I re-watched TESB last week, so it's pretty fresh in my memory. In my opinion it still holds up perfectly and is the best in the series, no question.

The republic winning --> Anakin turning and murdering children and the whole Jedi order murdered
All this within 15 mins
now this is what I call great pacing
>>
>>64130787
The Clone Wars isn't that special. It's more competently done than the prequels, for the most part, but its storylines are frequently wacky or contrived (Darth Maul's return and Savage Oppress being the most obvious, but Ahsoka's very existence is another) and it doesn't really make the prequel movies themselves any better. If anything it just creates more inconsistencies. Anakin's character was handled better in the series but it's somewhat difficult to reconcile his depiction in TCW with how he is in the movies.

It's not a bad show, but it's far from "the best Star Wars ever filmed." It's decent with some good episodes.

It's a visual spectacle that does get the characters where they need to be in the story. It's not totally pointless. Sure it could be done differently but well, it was done that way. and it's fun, it's cool. And does what it needs to do for the narrative.

>gives you a snippet of the war

The prequels are literally a PS2 era cutscene.
>>

These scenes are seriously great and the transition of Anaking becoming Darth Vader is actually well done. I wish it would have been longer though.

I also wish Anakin had been more tempted rather than manipulated. As if, why should the fear of the dark side stop him from becoming the most powerful Jedi of them all?

Endor battle: characters we like engaged in a final battle for survival.

ROTS battle: ?????????????????

One battle exists to help tell a story, the other exists simply for its own sake.

I'm not that smart and I have honestly no idea what George tried to tell us with this scene

TFA and even aspects of the OT fit that description better. TFA is essentially a video game. J.J. makes video games for the video game audience.

This is what threw people for a loop.
Anakin's fall working for you depends on if you can accept a different motivation than the one you were expecting.
>>
>>64133371
Shows what's happening in the war
Shows change in anakin and obiwans relationship
Shows bro ship with the clones
Introduced first plot conflict (find the chancellor)

Ensor scene:
Has action with random extras not important to the story

Remind me again how Endor is superior?

When people ask me why I defend George, I like to make a simple comparison. Jay Jay Abrams is the Thomas Kinkade of film, while George is the William-Adolphe Bouguereau of film. One makes generic crap, the other, a master of his art that produces work far beyond the understanding of mainstream audiences.

Well, it's more about Obi Wan's explanation, that he was seduced by the dark side. Here he saw pretty much no other choice, which is fine by me. I like Lucas decision there.
>>
>>64133520

>Or show that the war has reached a stage where it's right by their fucking doorstep.

Doesn't seem to mean anything since the surface of the planet is totally unaffected.

If you're talking about greatest opening scene for a Star Wars movie, it isn't. The original Star Wars had a much more exciting and visually innovative opening.

If I'm allowed to bring up non-Star Wars movies, 2001: A Space Odyssey makes the prequels look like movies made by 8 year old children with Super 8 cameras.

I hate to break it to you, but Bouguereau was behind the curve in terms of actual things that were pushing the limits. He did some progressive shit to be fair, but his work was pretty standard mythologized stuff.
>>
>>64133575

Except we never see him get captured. We're told he gets captured by a character we've literally never even hear of before. The most confusing thing about that movie, seeing it the first time, was that no one had any idea who the fuck General Grievous was.

>and the two best generals in the galaxy have been dispached to deal with it.

>Dispatching two generals in easily destructible craft to boards a ship by themselves with no assistance.

What a great story. Please explain how it makes sense to for two generals to act independently in such a way.
>>
>>64133487
Comedic relief.
The movie was meant for 12 year olds and he felt it needed some cheap jokes so it doesn't lose the younger crowd over its serious and fairly complex plot.
>>
>>64133685

Which is a shame I agree, but the scene still makes its message. Too bad Lucas didn't build on it by showing complete paranoia in the city and economic disruption instead of everyone just walking around unaffected.

Eh, the really big thing he did was teaching though, and getting women into the academies. I mean using his clout to open the French Academy to women is a brilliant thing don't get me wrong. But the realists are the real heroes artistically of that time period.

Have you ever read history? The build up to either ww1 or ww2 is precisely what Lucas went for.

A small economic/political disagreement develops into an internal and external conflict, which political leaders take advantage of in order to gain more power. That's a complex plot. It was executed poorly in the prequels, but it's still a complex plot. At the same time you have light saber fights for the transformers generation and slap stick humor in order to keep the younger generations interested.

Keep in mind, i'm not the same anon you responded to.

The Weimar Republic's problems were political instability and currency issues, not that the government was inherently weak.

I'm not going into a historical debate, but Hitler used the Weimar Republic's acceptance of the Versailles treaty to his advantage. Same with the dependancy on loans from the US plus a limited size army.

Kids. It's why 4chan hates atheism and liberal shit (big part is reddit though), complete 180 from 8 years ago. The kids are 18 now and think leftist shit is mainstream cause it's popular, hence all tastes are now reversed. Prequels are great, Tom Cruise is great, being a right-wing conservative is great. These modern fags hate weed as well. 8 years ago my agnostic and somewhat-fascist views would have gotten hell, now unless you have a similar view you're 'reddit'.

tldr: average poster age is 18, these fags don't absorb the culture and impose a distorted fold to reddit.

The point was that Hitler had a power structure he could use once he stabilized it. Sheev pulled one out of his ass and everyone accepted it.

Though to the points you brought up: They also do not carry the comparison. Weimar Germany was under strict guidelines under Versailles (not the League of Nations) to limit its ability, both financially and militarily, and France and Belgium even occupied the Ruhr when Germany failed to pay reparations in full. These are clear external threats and could easily be viewed as oppression by the people on the receiving end of it. The best argument that could be made for why the CIS rebelled would be due to taxation, but that is some retarded libertarian crap since taxation comes with being part of a nation, or viewing the Trade Federation's occupation of Naboo and the Republic's pathetic response as a reason to form a new system where the member systems could actually feel protected, but that is also retarded since the Trade Federation is a key member of the CIS so why the fuck would other systems join the one that did the initial abuse?

The motivations of the CIS and its members makes no fucking sense. That entire rebellion feels like Lucas shoehorned it in for plot reasons.
