I like the change between wearing or not the mask. Kylo Ren, the man with the mask, is cruel, he's anger personified, he's feared. Ben Solo, otherwise, is full of doubts, insecure, whinny and fucking ugly.
Just like Vader's last moments, the character totally changes. Kylo has a promising future, if we truly have seen the last of Ben Solo. It'll be like having the transformation from Anakin to Vader but without three boring movies. We've witnessed Kylo's own "Revenge of the Sith".

You're acting like Star Wars should aspire to be art-house cinema with experimental antagonists. In the context of a mainstream blockbuster, Ren failed to produce a archetypical or memorable quality until the end of the movie, unlike the antagonists' introductions at the start of the OT and PT.

I probably didn't express myself very well. I didn't get the feeling that Finn was a protagonist. For every wall that he had to climb, Rey had already broken two walls. She's gifted. Meanwhile, Finn was a mostly clueless stormtrooper-turned-good, and he probably doesn't have much else to help him on his journey unlike her.

I like what a nuanced villain he is. I like that the writers also bothered to actually examine what a Sith's motivations might be and attempt to make their characters realistic. As awesome as the OT movies are, Vader and the Emperor are basically goofy cardboard cutouts as villains.

I don't feel like the movie needed to be saved but.... I think they fucked Kylo up in a couple ways:
1) That scene when he's going ballistic and the two troopers stop and walk the other way. It was a serious moment ruined by humor and I felt it made him look childish and hard to really take seriously after that point.
2) Should have saved the whole Han-and-Leia's son reveal for the end. Would have been awesome if they hinted it throughout the movie and then you don't realize it until Han shouts "BEN!" at the catwalk scene.

I'm 30. Driver's performance was nuanced and expressive, probably the best single piece of individual acting in the history of Star Wars. I certainly can't think of anything technically better. definitely the best showing of the film. Finn was alright but a bit unbearable, Rey wasn't much to talk about, Poe wasn't really there, Luke wasn't there at all, Han acted worse than usual, Leia was bad, Chewie looked CGI, yellow yoda was mediocre, general Hux was decent but not iconic in any way or memorable, Snoke seems uninteresting so far.
Kylo Ren is certainly the best aspect of the film.

Kylo is evil because of his own burning insecurity: he's so desperate to grow stronger and believes it's his rightful place to rule over the galaxy that he turned to the dark side in order to reach his potential. He imagines a potential reality where he could have ruled over the Empire as a descendant of Vader's lineage, perhaps even getting to spend time with his grandfather; clearly he's been severely misguided by Snoke due to his potential as a Jedi. He clearly has the same inner rage as Anakin, knows his own lineage and despite hearing about the atrocities Vader committed, somehow is seduced into believing he was doing the best thing for the galaxy. He's so desperate to serve the dark side, he kills his own father even when it clearly mentally ruins him. Even thanking his father as he dies. The closest thing to this for me is Vader's dedication to bringing Luke to the dark side: he honestly thinks the best thing for his son is to rule alongside him. Also some kind of connection to Rey even Snoke isn't aware of that he has.
To me even after watching these movies a ton of times, Kylo is already the most striking and interesting villain. Only Sheev might surpass him from sheer cunning.

Meanwhile, Rey represents millenial women, particularly those of the modern feminist movement. Don't need no man, because in the beginning, she really was forced to survive on her own. But as the movie progresses, she gains power and importance in the plot at a rapid pace - the point of achieving Mary Sue status and plot armor. This is a setup for her inevitable downturn to the darkside in the next episode, where she'll become increasingly arrogant and selfish with her dark side temptations.

Finn represents modern minorities - particularly those of immigrants and SJWS. Came from a horrible, mistreated or just outright shady background in his younger years and is desperate to leave it all behind - to the point of outright lying to appeal to others (offering Poe an escape because he says "it's the right thing to do," but Poe senses it's BS, accusing him that he just wants a pilot to get him off base instead.) He joins the rebellion - not because he initially cares for their cause, but because they can offer him a new identity, and a better life. At its core, he's selfish and is only looking out for himself and those he has some deep connection to.
I have no doubts that Snoke will turn out to be Plagueis - or at least a Plagueis-like character in terms of past accomplishments and importants. He represents the elite and the illuminati - the ones who've been fucking things up for generations behind a curtain. Gaining power by manipulating people to split into two opposing factions who're constantly at war with each other, unaware of how fucked up things truly are.
Not a clue what Poe represents yet, but I won't be sunnrprised if he represents liberals or even homosexuals, considering all of the gay shit that's spreading about him now.

I don't think he's on the path to destroy Snoke specifically, but he do believes that the galaxy was thrown into fucking shambles and chaos ever since the Rebel-Empire war and he wants to anything to restore order to it.
