Is he the greatest visionary of the 21st Century, or just another unimaginative, unoriginal hack?
>>
>>64128341
Between both but closer to the latter.
>>
>>64128341
The guy knows how to handle CGI action scenes but the stories, characters and casting choices are always shit.
>>
Much better than internet critics suggest, worse than his reputation necessitates. Better than Wheden, that's for sure.
>>
>>64128449
>characters and casting choices are always shit.
These are his strengths though
>>
>>64128476
Whedon is bottom of the trash pile, everyone is better than him, even Bay.
>>
Do you think VII looked like something made by the greatest visionary of the 21st century?
>>
>all those CGI characters
Disappointing, also don't forget to put explosions everywhere because that's what kids love
>>
He makes how I imagine Nolan wants his sci-fi's to come out.
>>
>>64128668
Shit?
>>
>>64128752
no, good but shallow.
nolan tries too hard
>>
>>64128816
You struggle to understand?
>>
>>64129212
what?
>>
>>64128341
Greatest unoriginal hack of the 21st century.
>>
His obsession with the "mystery box" wrecks half the things he works on. It's no wonder he only sticks around for the beginning and then bails.

Seriously, watching his TED talk is like a revelation, he basically explains why all his stuff is bad while thinking what he's saying is good
>>
>>64129416
gaylord
>>
>>64128341
he successfully re-booted a franchise and pushed progressive agenda

job completed

Whedon > JJ> Paul ws Anderson> Brett Ratner > Bay

This is a list of worst to first in the Flick Director category
>>
Just look at the name of his company
"Bad reboot production"
>>
>>64128525
So why were they so bad in episode 7?
>>
>>64129576
The Avengers has the worse mise-en-scene of any film with its budget. Wheden is a glorified television director. Even Bay's shots are nicer.
>>
>>64128341
He's rather mediocre and makes serviceable movies. Why does it have to be one or the other? Are you bipolar?
>>
>>64129576
Bay > JJ > Paul > Whedon
>>
>>64129304
He's implying that Nolan is 2deep4u

>Gets to direct the first New Star Wars movie
>Dream of a lifetime
>Gets on set
>Someone else is directing
>Goes to producer
>"Oh, we just needed your name, your name alone will bring in at least 300 million minimum"
>Outraged
>"We need someone who will follow the recipe JJ, not someone who uses lense flare ever 3 minutes"
>Refuse to sign the contract for Star Wars VIII
>No one cares
to be jj is suffering
>>
>>64129632
I might put Whedon above JJ simply because he seems to care about making movies. JJ Completely could care less and probably hates cinema as an art form.
>>
>>64129682
Bay has been fucking terrible lately, though. Transformers 4 is the first movie I've ever walked out of in my life.
>>
>>64129682
wait is this worst to first???

Bay is a better director then the rest even if his flicks are generally crap.

>going to the cinema to watch this shit in the first place
>>
>>64129734
haven't seen T4 but P&G was pretty good.

>>64129755
best to worse
>>
>>64129626
And Star Trek.
>>
>>64129766
I go to the movies every week and there was nothing else on back then. Also the other movies were dumb and loud, but they weren't even remotely as bad as IV. I hope he got plenty of razzies for that piece of shit.
>>
He needs to chill the fuck out.

All his movies are jittery bullshit like they're made for a perpetually bored 5 year old or something
>>
>>64129721
I'd rather a guy who doesn't give a shit about movies making entertaining stuff than a guy who does making awful stuff
>>
He reminds me of the kid in school who would technically do everything right, but his creative projects/essays would have an empty/robotic feel to them.
>>
>>64129781
>P&G was pretty good
That was 3 years ago, though.
>>
>>64129922
he's only made T4 and P&G in the past few years
>>
>>64128341
he takes dead franchises and soft reboots them to make money...he is a fantastic action director...but wouldn't know a good script if someone beat him to death with it.
>>
>>64129626
The energetic performance is bad compare to the lifeless performance from the prequel to you?
>>
>>64129959
Yeah and T4 is one of the worst movies ever made.
>>
>>64129886
At least whedon knows pacing
>>
He's the substitute for Spielberg, nothing else
>>
>>64129886
I'd rather see a guy try but fail I guess.

I assume JJ just had a really easy life and is related to someone in hollywood (I don't know anything about him...I can't imagine someone who had to work hard become a director being so artless)
>>
>>64128341
He's the greatest unimaginitive, unoriginal hack of the 21st century.
>>
>>64130064
no he doesn't
>>
>>64128341
greatest visionary with the most original movies of all time.

no one could've guessed Khan would be in star trek 2. and The Force Awakens was the most original story of all the 7 star wars movies.
>>
>>64130142
Sure he does, more than JJ "one speed" abrams
>>
>>64128341
Hack. Basically Brett Ratner with better PR.
>>
Plus:
- had a sense of great character and storytelling
- can give energetic performance to his actor
- can create great action sequence
- realistic direction, felt more down to earth

Negative:
- his dynamic camera movement can be a little frustrating sometimes
- use closeup and shaky-cam too much even with cgi action scene
- lens flare effect
- always had unresolved plotline

He's a decent filmmaker, but he's still yet to be proven as a visionary director
>>
>>64130282
Brett at least made Rush Hour
>>
>>64130444
And blew his beans inside Olivia Munn.
>>
>>64130483
He is very charming
>>
He's such a Spielberg wannabe.

Super 8 was absolute shit.
>>
>>64130374
Ops, i forgot about his fast-pace storytelling in the plus. And something about he can't create memorable and iconic moment to feel by audience, because he always did everything fast as negative
>>
>>64130374
I love nearly every aspect of JJ's 80s aesthetic, and most of his directorial choices. His biggest problems are his writing and the scripts he chooses to direct. He needs to make something more original.
>>
>>64130374
shoo sho jaw jaw
>>
>>64128341
Competent popcorn flick director but little experience and depth.
Lacks finesse and subtlety.
The "red light vs sun light" in the Han vs Kylo scene comes to mind as a brutish and too obvious attempt at poetic imagery.
>>
>>64130617
I'd say his fast paced storytelling is a negative. He clearly uses the breakneck speed of his movies to blind the audience from the glaring plotholes and other things that don't quite make sense
>>
>>64130571
Of course he's a spielberg wannabe. Spielberg already knows him since he's 16 years old, and cleary he gave him some advice as inspiration of filmmaking
>>
>>64128341

Extremely unoriginal paint-by-the-numbers corporate filmmaker

Hack
>>
>>64128341
>another unimaginative, unoriginal hack

And a faggot. Don't forget faggot.
>>
>>64131867
Goes without saying, anon.
>>
>>64131158
Jew
>>
I strongly believe a group of redditors created this robot
>>
>>64131158
So basically jj is kylo and Spielberg is darth Vader...
