Name a better film made in the last 16 years.

Inside Llewyn Davis.
By a long way. Still like TWBB.
>>64125893
I can't stand films where the main character is "waaah so lonely" but has friends.
>>64125616
Nah senpai you're right
>>64126027
not everyone with a social life is happy or is exempt from loneliness.
>>64126172
If you claim to be "lonely" while having friends around you, then you're just an attention seeker.
>>64126027
He wasn't lonely. He was grieving.
Llewyn actually knew he had loads of friends and used them regularly.

Tries to hard to make it a golden age hollywood epic, pushes the drama so extremely hard with the music.

I like "There Will Be Blood" very much but it does not strike me as a "great" film. I think I like "Training Day" as much as "There Will Be Blood."

I hope this is b8,
but I do like The Master as much as There will be blood

So far? Yeah sure.
>>64125769
A Separation, Mullholland Drive, In The Mood For Love
>>64125616
It's good but there's nothing special about it, The Master is a far better film
Paul Dano makes it worth watching though
>>64127677
these
also the tree of life. there are quite a bit out there of the same quality or even better
It's a 7/10 at best
PTA has made way better movies

Why PTA?

>Paul Dano makes it worth watching though
What?

Always cute seeing this criticism
it was terribly personal, visceral, mortal, immediate. I fail to see how intellectualism comes into it and I don't think you do either, just sounds good.
>>64127598
Nope, not bait. As I said, I liked TWBB very much. So much so that I purchased it on Bluray. However, it is difficult for me to say that it is a better film than something like "Training Day." It is an opinion, of course, but I would rate those two movies of roughly equal quality.
The original topic is the "Greatest film of the 21st century." Unless this is the century of shit (and it arguably is), I would say that a film given that appellation would have to be a "great" film. I'm not convinced TWBB is a great film.
Dr. Strangelove is very obviously a great film. Amadeus, in my opinion, is a great film.
P.T. Anderson is a much better director than Fuqua but, in this case, Training Day holds its ground.

This is the only objectively correct answer

You're welcome! :)

>>64129022
No problem. I like both films very much and bought both of them on Bluray to goose up their revenues in the hopes that more good films get funded instead of the horrible sequels and knock-off which are seemingly 90% of everything today.
I might actually agree with you but I haven't spent enough time thinking deeply about which is a better film and have never thought to analyze the films in depth to make a more confident statement. I enjoyed both films tremendously.

I'm assuming this is the film from the late 1990s that was directed by Steven Spielberg? This was a pretty bad movie.
Really makes one wonder how it would have turned out had Stanley Kubrick not died. I'm pretty sure Kubrick would not have made such a sappy film.

this is what plebs think
A.I. came out in 2001 for starters. Kubrick never thought he should direct that movie though, he always thought Spielberg would handle it better and he was completely correct in that thought. Kubrick wanted to actually build a robot child for the movie, he was a retard.
